A group of R3 members are returning to visit the Monaco Historic in 2020.
Witness classic cars from the golden age of motorsport compete in races through the iconic streets of Monaco, along the same circuit that is still used today for the F1 Grand Prix. The 12th Monaco Historic Grand Prix will take place over three days in May 2020, just 2 weeks before the Monaco Grand Prix.
If you would like to enjoy some F1 racing on the streets of Monaco, without the huge price tag of F1, then this is the way to do it. Unlike the F1, visitors can get up close to the cars and teams in the paddock; test your celebrity spotting skills to find F1 drivers of years gone by.
This isn’t an organised R3 trip, as such, but here are the details if any of our members fancy joining us. Of course, there are plenty of other options, but having attended this event since 2012, this is my personal preference this year. I’m not a travel agent, I’m just sharing my knowledge from previous visits. There are plenty of fully organised trips available, including the Club one if you prefer to have your trip fully managed.
Doing it this way saves a great deal of money, but does involve having to think outside the box, as there is no agenda other than to have a great time. If there is something you want to see or do there is absolutely no pressure to remain as part of the group, in fact we encourage everyone to simply go and explore and enjoy what is important to them.
[ul][*]Race tickets are available direct from Automobile Club de Monaco We have booked stand K1.[*]Flights from Newcastle to Nice with Easyjet. 5th May EZY6481 return 12th May EZY6482. Trains, buses & taxis are available to get up the coast. Other options are available from Edinburgh for a shorter trip.[*] We will be staying at the Hotel Riva, Menton. Menton is only a few stops along the coast by bus or train. (However there are many other options available depending on your preference and budget.) Again no pressure to book the same hotel.[/ul]Last year cost us 1 Euro per journey to get to the track. The train station is a 10-15 minute walk and the bus stops just outside the hotel. For those who are a little more adventurous and would like to add a short excursion to your holiday why not visit Italy for the day, which is also just a short train ride along the coast?
