[8D]Well am looking to hear from experiences
for the trip from fellow owners,am making the trip and
have loaded up the French satnav cd.
I'm thinking how far to drive with the top down?
Depends on weather maybe?
Speed limits seem a bit strict by all accounts as well
[]

Sounds a great trip. We have been to the south of France several times in the Boxster. Sometimes so hot you we had to put the hood up and the aircon on to cool off! Watch out if you have a satnav with speed cameras marked - these are now illegal and the French will delight in applying their usual draconian penalties.

Why not incorpoate the 'Route via the French Alps' ? http://www.grande-traversee-alpes.com/route-des-grandes-alpes/preparez-votre-itinerance/les-étapes-de-litineraire

You can either pick the route on the south side of Lake Lucerne or pick it up later.

The highest peaks will still be snow covered and driving in brilliant sushine with the Top down, surrounded by snow is something not to be missed as an experience.

There are fantastic villages between each Peak and you can find some great places to stay. You will need to allow about 4 days if you decide to take this route as part of your overall journey.

Whatever you do, stick to the speed limits. If you are feeling brave, go no more than about 8-10 % above the limit. 50 km above any limit is a huge fine and car confiscation.

When you reach Monaco, you must drive Top Down through the tunnel at high revs !

We have just returned from Monaco and also did the trip last October when we had the roof down all the trip.the route napoleon from Grenoble for 5 hrs via gap and digne les brains and the short detour round the gorges de verdun down to grasse was unbelievable .well worth the detour as the Michelin guide used to say.
Have fun[:D]

[:)]Thanks dyllan,
Am wanting to go on this route Napoleon, sounds very impressive.
Will get back around start of June in time to polish the car for Bromley Pageant.
You sure were brave top down all the way, have just had a crew cut so am not sure about that one.
Definately like it topless though great fun,but need to find my hat!
Have loaded the french cd for the sat nav,and can't wait, cheers.

Route Napoleon south from Grenoble is excellent - drove it last May (top down). Think about a cross country and return via the millau bridge - its awesome and a British design (though the French try to hide that in the small print). Excellent visitor centre/services by the bridge (a converted farmhouse) - walk up to the viewing area is a must. If you can stop overnight (the Balladins on the services South of the Bridge is cheap/handy accomodation - bit like a Travelodge) you can drive into Millau, round and under the bridge and also have a look from the hillside above the LeClerks at night (the turn is a sharp one and its signposted unsuitable for camping cars - OK for everything else though) - one of the wonders of the world! Have a great trip.

as said above and as you suspect([:D])the drive down from grenoble with the roof down is one of the very best days of my life.and the roof down was no problem-there were no complaints from linda at all and she doesnt usually like it down too much as it messes her coiffure!!!simply fab and in june it shouldnt be too busy so you can really blast it round those mountain roads

enjoy!!
