In case anyone's interested - they're leaving Paisley on the evening of 23 Jan. More info at http://www.renfrewshire.gov.uk/webcontent/home/services/leisure+and+culture/events/ce-spotlight-montecarlorallylaunch

Could be up for that leave the car and get the train over as parking will be difficult could have a few beers as well .Keep me informed as to what your plan is if you go .
Brian

Wouldn't mind going along to this as well but I need to check my diary when I'm back at work next week.

A wee update ...there will be 30 official Monte cars leaving and 80 Heritage cars entering doing the run to Luss as in previous years .
Cars will be there from 15.30 and the first car will leave at 18.00 hrs .
Parking should not be a problem as it is an early start and midweek so spectator numbers may be down .

I am away that week with work [:(]

Brian - the official entry list from the ACM shows only 7 Glasgow (Paisley) starters in the actual rally. There is a concurrent tour to Monaco and that probably makes up the balance. Unfortunately, this is the lowest entry since the Glasgow start was revived which could signal it's demise again.

It hardly seems worth while going to see 7 cars !! i phoned up RDC and it was them that told me 30 cars taking part along with the usual heritage guys own run which is well supported .

I went to the start either last year or the year before, it was at Glasgow Green during the day at the weekend.

Paisley is fine for a start, I work there so very handy, but it will be almost dark by then!!!

The numbers at GGreen re the the public were really high, a good event, I think this timing and mid week is a very bad move!

I saw one of the officials yesterday - he had only just received the final official entry list on Friday - he said there were 9 cars on the official rally, but the local car club will have a number of cars.

Apparently the monte carlo car club will not allow any timed stages up here and they had a problem with Glasgow council wanting £5k to suspended parking meters, and previous years the police saying they wouldn't allow it because of speeds being driven out of the city, and therefore the majority of those who previously started in Glasgow have opted to start in Reims. Indeed if you had a classic, we would all question why would you wanted to add 900miles onto your journey when no timed event involved, - not great for Glasgow but understandable.
He did say that the police this year have been great offering rider escorts, but looks like a combination of events has effectively put the brakes on this

Won't be going now ,no point to see 9 cars and i have possibly got photos of all those entered if the list from last year is anything to go by . Glasgow Green 2013 a good crowd as it was a weekend also went to Clydebank in 2012 low number of entrants .The best by far was in Glasgow 2011 all cars parked up in George Sq during the day then later in the evening left from Blyswood Sq .
Christiana a member got us a food and drink deal in the RAC club hotel looking down at the start great night and i was standing taking photos a foot away from the off start ramp the place was packed .
I was also at the 1964 start outside the RAC building at the time......... ah! the good old day's [:D][:D]

May pop over no guarantee as going along to the curry night ...why not join us i am sure there are spaces .

Went along .........was very surprised at the good turnout place was very busy ....as stated only about 9 cars actually doing the Monte the rest where on the heritage run .
I met Tom Fitzimmons in his 1963 Volvo PV544 car no 247 who was doing the full trip ,he gave me his pass to get into the press area ( sorry Alan ) and you got close up to all the cars and could speak to the drivers etc .Some on here may well remember Paddy Hopkirk and Rosemary Smith from early rally days both where in attendance a good night overall and a nice curry afterwards with the Pistonheads guys. We had 36 sit down for a fab meal if anyone is interested in going see the posting on PH Forum Scottish section for the next one in February .
