One of the best nights I have been to in a long time ...The last time I saw the start of the Monte was 1973 yes that far back A big thank you to Christina who put the whole package together ,and what a spot right under the start ramp looking into Blythswood sq
Food and service was excellent and not forgetting the cars which is why we all went they where fantastic non of your modern stuff .I must have taken over 200 pictures so hope at least some are good
Brian

Lucky you Brian

It was a shambles outside the square

"official" photographers almost fighting with punters who had been there for 2 hours when their view was being blocked when they were try to get there shots

Douglas Street down onto St Vincent street was mobbed, there were parked cars both sides so you had to stand in road leaving a very narrow space for cars to fight their way through

St Vincent street was still open for traffic and if like us you were on wrong side passing traffic blocked view of cars.

We gave up at 6:45

In fairness to organisers I think they were caught out by numbers I was suprised myself how busy it was

The place was very busy ,I was very lucky as I was right in front of the ramp and saw them coming up to the start and going away .Pity my photographic skills did not match the prime site I had.
Was in George sq from 3.00 oclock so got to see the cars in daylight and talk to some of the Porsche drivers .

I got a resonable spot where the cars were queueing, in earshot of the announcer. Lovely to see (hear and smell), my faves were the Alpine A110 and the 'last of the summer wine' Jag. Biggest fault was they didnt clear a decent straight after the start.

Photos over on PH thread, mine were crappy as I only had phone;

Really enjoyed it last night. Sorry I didn't get to talk to anyone much"”seems like most people I knew were warmly ensconced inside the hotel while we braved the cold and exhaust fumes!

If this comes to Glasgow again, it needs to be much better promoted and made more accessible to Joe Public. Between the press, the commentary, the official website and even the programme sold on the night, there wasn't a single explanation of what a classic rally actually is! There were so many people there last night asking what was going on, why the cars weren't racing each other, and so on.

Am yet to meet any of you guys, as up from London working so interesting to have a different view

I thought it was pretty good, and not so busy, but my last experience of cars on the road in a city was after work in oxford st when they ran F1, and trust me that was busy.
I chatted with the guys driving the jag, 'last of the summer wine' collective 225yrs old and 167 yrs driving experience!

3 old guys and a six pack of red bull - quality

and some nice porsches too, 74 911, with a couple of french guys expecting to be in Monaco saturday evening - and me I was back in Govan today!!!

So were / when do you meet?

cheers
