A reminder that this month's meeting at Garstang is on Wednesday 19th January, when we will be having a talk from a representative of Glasurit Paints.

You may have noticed that this post has not come from David. He is, as you are probably aware, on a cruising holiday with Judy. Imagine our horror this morning to receive an e-mail from David, telling us that their ship had been pursued by pirates. He gave us no further details but an internet search gave us the relevant information.
During a black tie dinner the passengers were asked to go below decks and remain there out of sight in case of shooting. The ship then sailed at full speed away from the area until the pirates gave up. The ship was then given a coastguard escort into Mombasa. The crew had taken emergency measures to repel boarders, including water cannon and razor wire on the handrails.
In a masterstroke of understatement David said he would tell us all about it when he got home. Roll on Wednesday !

Yep,picture of the ship & story in the papers today-no mention of a Captain Slow though, just description of a Captain fast out accelerating the rib-hope they go through thr actions on Wed.

I saw an article in the Sunday Times today that mentioned a SAGA ship had out accellerated a possible pirate boat.

About time they put a few 'Trojan Horse' ships out there full of mercenaries and took out these pirates once and for all. Sink a few of them and they will soon be discouraged.

But then again we can't upset them as we have to play by international rules and protect their human rights!!!

Next thing you know they will be asking for asylum in the UK!

According to David's last message the ship had out accelerated the pirates and had then been given an escort by the US Navy. They had then taken armed guards on board for the journey into Mombassa.
David and Judy will be flying home tomorrow via Zurich.

I told him he should have stayed on the leeds to liverpool canal...lot safer (well maybe not at the liverpool end) [;)][:D]

We joked before they left about them being captured by pirates.

However the ship is called 'The Spirit of Adventure', which now seems very appropriate.

so rumour going about that you wish to be known as captain pugwash from now on is completely and utterly untrue......? [:D][:D]

If I had read that comment about me being altitude challenged,I wouldn't have spoken to you last night-I normally have more taste.[:)]
I would have also written more deprecating stuff about you on your RR-but on reflection,I love you too much to retaliate in that way.[:D]

Would "wash me -I'm dirty" do? or "what's the Missionary's position? & would he know-I ask myself.[8|]
