Moral Dilemma

Which do you dislike the most, a scoobie driver or a speed camera on a perfectly safe stretch of road only there for the purpose of generating revenue.

On my way home today I noticed a scoobie driving, boy racing, Burberry baseball cap wearer type impatiently over taking three or four cars back. As he caught up with and was about to pass me my road angel reminded me of the speed camera round the next bend.

What now... Should I let him pass knowing he's likely to be three pointed and sixty nicker worse off or warn him of his impending fate, and be happy in the knowledge that I've deprived the robbing plods of a few quid.

A tough one I know, but before I had a chance to make up my mind he was off and certain to get his picture taken. I thought I'd better do the decent thing and warn him so started to flash my headlights in the hope he would slow down. Unfortunately, silly mister scoobie driver thought I was protesting about his reckless disregard of other road users so he cut in front of me and true to form raised his middle finger.......just as the camera flashed.

I'm still laughing three hours later.

Most excellent!

It reminds me of an incident many years ago in my Capri days. I was sitting on the front row at some traffic lights on a 40 mph dual carriageway. Along side was a baby boy racer in his Astra, reving, looking across and ready to go. He had been a complete wally prior to the lights with little regard for speed limits or other drivers.

As the lights changed I pulled away enthusiastically (but controlled with no wheel spin) and was ahead of him, accelerating briskly to 40 mph (this probably took about 10 seconds [;)]). At 40 mph, and in front, I took my foot off the gas completely and away shot Astra Boy. As he shot past me on came the disco lights on top of the car behind him. I'd seen the police car on the preceding stretch of road but Astra Boy was completely unaware of his presence or, indeed, that the police car was behind him at the lights. He took the bait, hook line and sinker and I had him a treat.

With regard to Skooby Boy, noting that he had been driving like a [sm=spanner1.gif] , I'm afraid I might have been tempted to go a little faster prior to the camera so as to ensure his fate.

A post that most of us will relate to - there is a God after all.

John - Capri days - showing your age [8D]

Reminds me of a time when I was at college - a pushbike was all my means stretched to at that time.

I had to turn right at a traffic light, which meant pulling into lane 2. Behind me a car drew up, obviously annoyed at seeing a bike in front, and aggressively revving the engine. I looked back and saw that the idiot behind the wheel was gesticulating appropriately, and also that the bonnet was adorned with the name of an esteemed local estate agent.

Anyway, the light went green and I pedalled as hard as I could and took a defensive line. Sadly, all that I heard from behind was the noise of an engine stalling [:D]

After a few days I managed to stop chuckling.

There's never been a camera round when I needed one. On a couple of occasions I have seen this happen in my minds eye when someone is trying to force their car into your boot. Let them pass just in time so as they put their foot down to 'teach you a lesson' flash flash
Ooh! moist.[&:]

Back fired on me once - I was chuckling to myself as I travelled into London one evening , up through Twickenham, the Red Light cameras were flashing like the paperazzie catching scores of people running the lights.

..... I got flashed on my return out of London [][][] 3 Points to the Plod.

I see plenty of Porsche drivers in baseball caps,if we had room I wouldn't mind having a "scoobie" for some fun,as it is the BMW seems to keep pace with them anyway. On the basis that it could happen to me,I don't bother with "entrapment".What irritates me more is the total lack of knowledge&understanding some drivers(seemingly weekend plodders mostly) have of the highway code and roadmarkings.
I use the A69 a bit generally going to & from our Daughter's house near Newcastle. After a fast drive up the M6,the A69 is full of spaced out artics with gaps occupied with "weekend "type drivers so it generally requires "leapfrog" overtaking using plenty of anticipation, bursts of acceleration plus braking now and again. This road has been plastered with the crosslined red central markings mostly dotted lines;perfectly legal to use if it is safe to do so.However all you get are shaking fists, blazing headlamps, deliberate closing up of gaps or moving over towards you(if coming the other way) even though you have completed the manoevre way out of any threatening proximity and in most times a much quicker car.
Otherwise a 45min trip can become 80-90 minutes.
(generally I am a "relaxed" driver)

Ahhhh, the A69, a particular favourite of mine, and I agree completely with the hashings - people seem to think they mean "don't overtake under any circumstances", leading to lines of [sweeping generalisation] old people [/sweeping generalisation] lining up between slow moving trucks, looking for a 3 mile straight gap to overtake!
The best part about the A69 is turning off onto the A689 to go over Hartside pass (the highest road in the Pennines) - a proper drivers road, and very little sign of plod - quite alot of the road recently re-surfaced too!

I don't agree with Speed Cameras, but have to laugh at scoobie boy, some people do deserve it after all!!

You now have your answer.

I normally let the chav catch up then just before the camera I dip the clutch and tweek the throttle, this often provocks a down shift that I hope puts them a least 30mph over.

I think this is fair game as you get life for shooting them.

This might sound a little harse, but If you lived where I live you will understand.

Mike (the chav remover)
