More advice needed!!!

Hi guys,

Whilst looking at the very slight oil leak on one of the engine oil pipes I have noticed that there is a transmission oil leak comming from the output shaft seal on the gearbox. I may as well change this as well!!!.

Anyway the job looks fairly easy to do am I right in thinking that you have to undo the drive shaft allen bolts. Then undo the drive shaft mounting flange (it looks like on PET that it is held in with 1 bolt through the center). Then just pull out the carrier to get to the oil seal.

Any advice welcomed on this. I will of course have to drain the g/box oil and I will make up a tool to fit the new seal on the lathe.

Also whilst on the oil leak subject has anyone replaced this oil pipe on their 964. Part number 964 207 257 11.
Are there any issues with doing this ie oil pump, it looks awarkard to do but it does look possible!! unlike the rear tinware behind the Power steering pump which to me is impossible to change without dropping the engine! Maybe one for the winter.[:D]

Thanks for the help

Thanks Steve,

But that is the rear oil seal where the gear selector rod goes into the gearbox. The one I have the problem with is the passengers side (rhd) drive shaft oil seal. I have today drained the g/box oil and tommrow i will undo the drive shaft coupling. I am 99% certain that once the drive shaft is disconnected from the gearbox then I undo the center bolt then the driver spindle will come out. We will see. I will post some pics for everyone to see. There are a few things I am doing right now so here is the plan!!

1) change front/rear shocks/springs for blistern hd with h+r greens
2) fix oil leak from D/shaft seal
3) fit new oil pipe on engine to oil tank
4) Modify gear change support rod to allow for ball bearing rose end rather than plastic bush
5)Clean the whole under side of the car
6) Drop engine and transmission (probably in a month or so time) to replace engine tin and I may as well fit new clutch at same time.
7) Change engine oil, spark plugs, fuel filter, air filter and adjust valve clearances which I will do with the engine out to make it easier!!
8)Go for a long drive!!!!

Just a few things to do but I will be worth it in the end!!

Tim
