More heater stuff

Hi Guys
I've been following the Heater Blower thread- (most of it above my head, even the acronyms!) and I wonder if anyone else has experience of problems with a pesky little beast called the Blower Interior Sensor- which is the little plastic-bladed fan that sits behind the small grille to the left of the aircon button and (if I understand it) pulls cabin air through to be sampled by the control unit. I think it's meant to run all the time also continues to run for some minutes after switch-off.

Mine only works intermittently. Sometimes it can be got going with a few taps, or by blowing compressed air through the grille. Sometimes not. I've changed it once, but for another 'pre-owned' one (a new one is £140+ would you believe) which could also be 20 years old!. The question: is it likely to be the fan unit itself at fault, or could it be the connection to the control unit, or...something else?

Over to the experts!

James, although I've got HVAC problems myself which haven't been solved yet, I can give you some input here. Just take the fan off *! It's only a sampling fan to drive air to the sensor inside the CCU. I've noticed hardly any detriment to the temperature control of the cabin with it removed.

*or just pull its plug out of the back of the CCU if you don't want the hassle of removing the CCU first.

Thanks for the input Steve. Interesting- I've found that the little fan does make quite a difference when it's working- temperature adjustments are made more quickly. Without it, I find I'm adjusting the heat control knob all the time. Unless there's another issue...!

It might be that I'm just less sensitive to the temperature changes in the cabin hence it doesn't bother me too much. Have you tried dismantling it? They're pretty simple in construction. You'll probably find that cleaning out the 20 years of dust and putting a bit of copper grease on the spindle inside makes it work a lot better.

Bit more info here if you need it:

Steve

Finally got the removal tool today, which jogged my memory that I never thanked you for this info! V helpful guide on the Rennlist forum, even I can probably follow that one. Time will tell. Thanks again.
Happy Burns Night to all!
