Okay, I've now got my fan and fan shroud removed. My alternator is split from the shroud so we're already to go off to the Powder Coaters. However, the strap that holds the shroud in place could do with being zinc plated again to bring it back to new. Thing is I can't get it off the engine. The dizzy caps removed but the body of the dizzy seems to still obstruct. Has anybody removed this part before and if so how? Do you need to remove the dizzy from the crank case to suceed??
I can tell this going to be fun re-assembling without scratching all my newly finished parts.....

Hi Tim. It's not hard really, its just a little fidely. To remove your pulley Porsche supplied the correct tool in their tool kit. Its like a C shaped spanner that hold's the pulley still whilst you undo the lock nut. The best descriptive step by step details I found were on Type 911's website under alternator removal. www.type-911.co.uk You might find that your alternator has seized into the housing so it might need soaking with a seperator oil overnight. Don't forget to dis-connect the battery before removing the alternator wires. Good luck!

Yep, I'm doing both the fan and the shroud. I believe it'll cost about £45. I've seen it done on other cars and it does look good.
