Having owned a 930 (which i had a lot of trouble with) i have purchased a 3.2 coupe. The car is a standard 84 model.Nice car,i just miss the extra power! Can i get more hp out of the car with out spending a fortune,or am i going to have to sell and buy another turbo.Any ideas?
Thanks,
Andrew.

Apparently just re-chipping the Motronic to run on 98Ron fuel can give decent gains in power, torque, throttle response and even MPG. That and maybe a sports exhaust (Dansk).

See www.911chips.com

Check your FQS (fuel quality switch) is set all the way anti-clockwise (98 RON); get a decent exhaust (I went down the Hayward & Scott route); get the car dyno'd (see any number of existing strings on this) and then get Steve Wong (911 Chips) to burn you a custom chip based on the ARF charts. If your engine's in reasonable health to start with you should make 250+ bhp and a little more torque, but with a much flatter curve.

It won't get you near your 930, but it will feel and sound much better.

What about a nice panel filter and best make ?
What make exhaust is the best tho and the price ?
What is the torque after the chip ?

Accessible through the cover of the Motronic ECU, itself located under the passenger seat.

You'll have to remove the four securing nuts and the one securing the cable bundle before you can move the ECU sufficiently to access the switch through the blue plug in the ECU cover.

Filters really don't make much difference power wise. SW says a K&N or cone type will only give you 1-2 bhp at the top end, max.

Exhausts - Take your pick. I went for Hayward & Scott single outlet and for me it works great. Cost for the whole system... you should expect to spend less than £1000. You can get cheaper from the States (£ is strong at the moment), but you may get caught for import duty and VAT. SSI's are possibly the ultimate, but don't seem to liberate much more BHP than conventional well designed alternatives on 3.2's. They do look great though.

Overall torque probably won't go beyond 220lbs/ft, but the curve will be flatter giving you a more useful power band.

Twinny,
Where do i find the fuel quality switch you refer to?
Thanks,
Andrew.

Just raise the seat up, remove the blue plug and stick either a golf tee or swiss screwdriver in the hole and turn the screw counter clockwise all the way. No need to remove the ECU as a rule.

A limiting factor is the 915 transmission.

You would spend thousands to make 300bhp lb/ft.

The 3.2 is a great car though.

One thing you might like to check is whether you are getting full throttle with the throttle pedal fully extended.

Check at the engine that the butterfly goes to its stop under this condition.

If not adjust the throttle linkage (where it mounts on the gearbox).
