More Power?

What exactly is that tower sticking out the top of the bonnet? A super charger on top of a super charger? I only put my headphones on when i heard the engine start [:)]
 
As ridiculous (and awesome!!!) as it sounds, yes, that tower is two superchargers,
one on top of the other.

Leave on the audio if you have a chance, the guy gives a bit of the specs out.

It's the intake plenums. Looks similar in execution to the Tundra engine someone in Florida put into a Supra last year with a pair of GT42's between the belts and the radiator.

This 944 has a rodent munching turbo in place of the passenger side fog light.

Edit- I thought we were talking about the 944, not the sequential supercharged GTO.
 
i read the renegade hybrids page re chevy small block in a 944... one quote took me aback; 'the original 944 Porsche motor is unreliable'

unreliable compared to a chevy engine? how many of them clear 250k? do chevy even exist any more? i saw a Matiz recently but i dont think it was a V8. Guy down the road has a corvette that must be a V8 but ive never seen it move. (lived here 6 years).

 
Given that 944's with duff engines seem to be worth very little, that could be a good way into something seriously interesting.

I think there are issues with getting the RH kit to fit on a RHD car, if you are using the more sophisticated engine they offer (from memory, there are two V8's which are possibilities, one of which is significantly superior - does it have an alloy block instead of a cast iron one or something? Getting this engine to fit with a RHD steering column and rack is meant to be tricky.)

To be fair, those big lazy American V8's are quite reliable, but I wouldn't go
so far as to call the Porsche engines unreliable.

As regards engine choices, originally Renegade Hybrids were doing the LT
series V8s, which are cast iron block.
They don't do a bellhousing adaptor for this engine any more.

They instead do it for the newer LS series V8s, which are all aluminium, but still
pushrod. These are the engines in the Corvettes (I think the current Corvette is an LS-7).
Also, being GM, the Holden V8 cars use LS engines.

I remember reading on here many moons ago that someone was thinking of doing the conversion,
I don't know who, and had talked to Renegade about it.
As far as I recall, most of the stuff would fit, but he'd have had to get one or two parts done custom,
might have been the manifold?

I really don't remember......

Chaps we're just gonna have to be patient for a rhd V8 option. I know a man (well, a few men) with a plan and I've seen it in the flesh! AND, there is space for a blower too![:-]

Nothing wrong with a chevy V8, limited maintenance & go for ever, they would laugh at 250k and yes chevy still exist having come out of the other side of Chapter 11 in little over 30 days, but Porsche aren't exactly in great shape themselves either
