More Power

I've had my 987S (2005) for about 3 months and am generally pretty happy with it. I can never leave well alone though, so have been looking at options for a bit more power. Autofarm list a package consisting of sports exhaust, panel filter and ECU remap, which they estimate should give around 30bhp improvement. Has anyone else had this done, or got any views?
Cheers,
Richard

An ECU retune doesnt really need the panel filter on a 987 S as the air intake isnt the restriction , this just gives a more growly induction sound and a slightly better initial response to throttle position. The ECU remap will make the car drive better and feel more responsive but to get any significant power you need more air and more fuel. The best way to get this is to fit the larger intake distributor and throttle body from a 3.4 or later 2.7 boxster which is 74 versus 68mm in size. Expect 8-10 hp for around 200 pounds outlay on used parts, there is also no need for ECU retuning as the car self adapts. The only other parts you need are 100mm jubilee clips and a pair of silicone reducers from e bay to mate the new and existing parts together. Theres a good write up on www-planet-9.com in the articles section on how to do this. Forget performance exhaust manifolds the 3.2 already has the best manifold design of all boxsters and caymans and gives the best power. Fitting a de cat or 200 cell cat manifold may give 5-7 gain maximum but will set you back more than 1000 pounds.

Mike, many thanks for the advice. Also, hadn't been aware of planet-9 before - plenty of interesting stuff there.
Cheers, Richard
