More questions on water ingress

Hi

I wondering if anybody can help with my particular water problem. I have an targa, and after heavy rain, the water leaks into the passenger footwell. I am certain that it is coming from the door and I notice that there is a hole at the front (bottom) of the door. Its not the same as the other drain holes, so I am wondering if there should be a plug there. Can somebody tell me what ( if any ) plugs should be in the bottom of the door and whether I need to replace the door seal to stop the drainage into the car as opposed to out ! Mike

You can buy a couple of rubber blanking gromets that fill up these holes.

OPC Part No. P111.971.911.A

It will not stop the water coming in only reduce the wind noise a bit.

I'd check all round the seals first particularly above the quarter light area. I've had everything replaced and the Targa refurbed and still a trickle comes in now and again above the drivers window in heavy rain, the rubber profiling is a bit poor. Sometimes getting the windows adjusted up against the seals can help.

Thanks Steve.... I'll take a look at the weekend. Did you get the seals replaced by a specialist, or did you carry out the work yourself ? Mike

Hi Mike - you can do them yourself if your good with the Evostick! Take your old ones along if not buying OPC parts, as some of the aftermarket sections are way off in profile.

However, I would suggest that you get a specialist to do them that way you'll have some redress. It's an important area that needs to be right to prevent water ingress and reduce wind noise.

Just check things out first carefully with a hosepipe to narrow down the problem, paying attention above the side window areas.

Good luck,

Steve
