morning bubbles

I've been in automotive heaven since buying my '96 993 three months ago, without doubt a far better car than the 964 I owned 10 years ago. But I have often wondered if the loud bubbling sound emanating from the oil reservoir into my right ear for the first few minutes of driving each morning is completely normal. Obviously this is NOT a problem as it soon disappears, I'm just curious as to wether this is unique to my otherwise stunning car. It's a manual coupe, with a Porsche sports suspension kit, and an airbox of some kind as the engine note is, well, even lovelier than usual.
thanks

Perfectly normal. It's the sound of the oil that has settled at the bottom of the engine case overnight being pumped to the oil tank. My 964 does it every morning for a minute or two.

Some do it, some don't. Some only when cold. I have always wondered if it is related to the type of oil used in a particular car or not.

Ian.

Mine seems to do it half way through warm up, and seems more obvious when the oil level is in the top half of the dip stick range than when it's in the lower half - all seems consistent with Ian's comments.

Nothing to worry about, it's completely normal. Some do it, some don't. Don't know why.

3 years ive had my 993 manual & yes its done it from cold bit worring to start with but getting used to it !
its done it using castrol magnatex, & valvoline oils.
so dont think it will stop making that sound, if i use any other make / grade of oil,
have fun with it !

Mine does it too. I asked Ray Northway about it and he says it's a bit oil brand related - the stuff he uses tends to do it more than Mobil 1. I think it's Havoline he uses? All normal though, apparently.

I've wondered about this because mine started to do this after six years of ownership, coinciding with a service a couple of months ago. It had always had Mobil 1 in 'til then but the independant put a semi-synthetic in (which didn't amuse me). So hopefully when I move back to Mobil 1 at the next service it'll go away.

Nice to have it confirmed that it's not a problem though.[:)]

This was pointed out ot me as a feature of the car when I picked it up when I purchased it

Had Magnatec in the car at the time, have switched to fully synthetic Silkolene now, still get it occasionally, but either I have got used to it, or it happens less now
