MOT and shocks(no not that type)

First up, I am pleased to say the old girl has just gone through an MOT no problem, in fact the lady that tested it said it was very clean car.[;)]

Anyway the only thing that that she made a note of was the front insert on the shock has very slight movement inside the strut. Anyone seen this before? I was thinking it was good excuse to upgrade the shocks, I have been looking at koni as fitted to the turbo. But the question is do I just need the inserts or the whole strut? The car is an 88 lux. Also where is the best place to buy from?

Thanks.

Lady? MOT Tester??

What is the world coming to? [;)][;)][;)]

I once had movement of the shock insert inside the strut (evidenced by a occaisonal clanging sound over bumps) as I hadn't screwed the brass cap holding the shock insert in the strut far enough down. If you replace your shocks with stock inserts I suggest you clean the threads at the top of the strut with a dremel so the new insert cap can screw on easily and as far as it can go.

do any of these inserts still have plastic cup shims supplied that centre and cushion the inserts within the screw caps ?if so any movement will have trashed them

Yes a lady tester, I was told because mine is a later model it dosent have the screw caps they are crimped on, havent looked myself.
