MOT Failure Screen washers

Hi All,

Any advice on repairing failed screen washers? Headlamp washers still work but screenwashers dead.

Thanks in advance.

Derek

The 4 jets on the bonnet on mine frequently block up with crud and i usually have to poke a very fine needle down them to clear.

The motor is the same part as many VWs and I paid about £8.50 at a generic motor factor for a new one in the summer when mine wouldn't work.

Derek,

There are (two?) one-way valves in the tubes that run from the bottle to the jets on the bonnet (they stop the water draining back). These can gum up and become inoperative. You can buy replacement valves and the little hose clips you'll destroy taking the old ones off from your OPC.

Also, on the end of the feed tube in the bottle, there is a small plastic filter. This can also get gummed up - it's easy to clean [:D]

HTH,

Jim.

Got exactly the same problem and haven't got round to sorting this yet (2 months on []), but it's the motor that's packed up on mine. If you search there's a long thread on this subject and the various options/remedies.

My temporary solution is to carry one of those sports drinks bottles filled with water in the glove compartment. And then when no-ones looking, stick you arm out the window and squirt [:D]

I've seen them doing this in Russia in the Winter as the washer jets freeze solid instantly there.

I have the opposite problem to the original post. My windscreen washers work fine, but I have no headlamp washers. Be greatful for any suggestions, especially during this mucky weather.

Vodka works in Russia in place of water until it gets really cold. Seriously. It even costs about the same as washer fluid does here for the rough stuff.
