MOT Glee!

Took my car in for MOT this morning , slight trepidation as I suspected some faults!

The tester is quite happy for me to help out and dive in the pit for a good look around ( thats worth the £50 alone to get a good look).

The sills were professionally replaced 18 months ago and I had never checked the work so wanted a good look - no underseal at all was put on the work which has now quite a bit of surface rust but no actual decay. The stonechip is slightly lifting and underneath is bare metal! Some protective paint needed there and I will put my rust proofer into the sills now.

Chassis is good. Brakes good. Steering joints good. Emissions good. Lights good.

Wanted to check the diff, gearbox, torque tube which all seem to have no wear from an external check over.

Really chuffed so now I can fit my new leather steering wheel, fit the new dash switches and dash panels ( lugs had broken off most of mine) fit new EBC brake pads, fit the new plugs and plug leads and off to Exeter I go for the week.

Thats what Tuesdays are all about!

You're lucky that let let you look under the car. In this age of rampant health and safety most garages won't let you out of the waiting room!

Congratulations on the pass [:)]

I know, luckily they are enthusiasts and also own classic cars so they appreciate we want to know more.

I much prefer being able to discuss things with a mechanic ( again these guys are 'engineers' not just component replacers who keep changing bits at your expense until they find out whats wrong!!) and learning about what is under the skin of my car.

Where did you take it?
I usually use TWG and they are happy for me to take my lad down the pit for a look-see
