MOT Justice

Those of you familiar with my recent post and my run in with Kwik Fit will be glad to know I had another MOT at a non-mainstream garage today. The good news is that the car passed without a single advisory. As opposed to the 12 that were issued by Kwik Fit. Funnily enough they were all for stuff that they would normally do like brakes, suspension, tyres etc. Even at 36 years old I am not too old learn lessons!!!!

It seems that the MOT test is still open to interpretation, as your experience shows. I believe that many of our trusty garages and service centres offer an up-sell scheme to their employees. Ie, the technition "finds" faults with your car which he then gets a percentage of the sale price should you agree to go ahead with the work.

You are absolutely correct brother. Don't quote me but I believe the guys in KF are on commision. I do believe in what goes around comes around though. The guy who did my MOT also has a tyre garage. I have a small wobble at 60 mph so I agreed to take it to his guys for a tracking and balancing check. I also told him he would be doing all my MOTs from now on. You reep what you sew as far as I am concerend!!

MOT's are very open to interpretation. I recall, many many years ago, owning a Mk1 XR2, which I bought with a friend as a 'project'. It failed an MOT quite dismally, and we didn't quite know what do do until friend came up with the (very) bright idea of "Hey, let's take it to another MOT place and see what they think!"

Second MOT place also failed it, but on a totally different list of points. There was not a single item which appeared on both lists. Thankfully the items listed by the second plate were much easier and cheaper to fix, so no prizes for guessing what we did ...

Oli.

Had a MGB that failed a MOT because they said the splines on the wheel hubs were worn. Took home wacked up the spline hubs with a f*cking big hammer took back next day for a pass. Mind you was sh*tting myself that I should have a puncture [:D]

Take your cars to the local council testing place. They don't do any servicing / repairs at all and have no hidden agenda. If your car's right it will pass.

I always find MOT time worse than going to the dentist. My 911 has been to the same place for the last four years and this year they tried to fail it on things that haven't been touched and should have either failed years ago or not. It has no side repeaters but hasn't done for a long time, they also reconned it had incorrect head lights, but these hadn't been touched.

Got away with the side repeaters but had have new headlights put in. An absolute crock if you ask me.

What? Incorrect headlights?
I am speechless
what was their explaniation, someone had swapped in MX5 ones whilst you weren't looking?

It will always be the case that one MOT station could fail you whilc another will give you a pass but 12 faults?

That sounds very dodgy to me and I'd report the KF branch involved for possible infringement of test procedures. It certainly looks like the test was rigged to generate extra income don't you think guy's?[8|]

One outfit tried to fail me on Blue Tint headlights........................They were xenons fitted from the factory.................................Complete Nuggets []

I once had one garage bill me for replacing a headlight lamp on an MOT test, charging me an hours labour to change the bulb. The lights were working perfectly when I dropped the car off for it's test. Suffice to say I never took my cars back to them to be tested.
