MOT - Near Miss

Guys,

I thought I would share with you my experience of when I went to get my car MOT'd on Saturday.

I have a PSE on the car and when they were doing the emissions test I was told that it had failed as the emissions were too high.

The high emissions could have been caused by a number of things - Oxygen Sensor, Too much fuel, too much air etc. Very difficult to find out without a PIWIS.

Anyway, it turned out that once I switched the sports exhaust off (silent) it passed the test with flying colours.

Really strange, as I was talking to someone (Roy) about this and was told that they had their car MOT's with the bypass mod and it had passed, no problem.

Am I missing something here?

I got my MOT done on Friday and it flew through the MOT without any advisories...Not a thing, was told by the MOT guy, who worked on Porsches for 35 years that I have a very tidy example. 1" Bypass mod done last year.

I can't think of a reason why they would increase. The silencers are after the cats, so you wouldn't expect emissions to be affected. I know of dozens of people on the forums who have done these mods, and never heard of it causing an MOT failure. Also, in the USA the Californians have their smog test, which I believe is tougher than our test.

Can't see why a bypass would make any difference,it's the same exhaust gas, just not as much going through the final silencers.

talking to a few people at the Ace meet yesterday, it could be that the engine was not running hot.

I suppose it doesnt matter now, as it passed anyway.

Thanks for your posts!!
