Nearly all my own work too, and what a lot of work needed this time:-

All four callipers stripped, cleaned and painted (to stop plate lift)
New front disks (fronts worn and corroded)
New front ARB bushes (no clonking front end and tight cornering now!)
Rusty sills repaired (plates fabricated and butt welded in- left sill needed 5 pieces fabricating, all rust removed then zinc primed, stone chipped, primed and painted in cellulose - amazingly colour match is perfect with the paint on there!)
Complete replacement of brake pipes at the rear of the car- including the long one that goes the length of the underside (I learnt to make up, cut and flare Kunifer brake pipes for this job).
New front O/s indicatopr lens
New front N/S idicator unit (the old one was corroded and played up just before the test so the garage fitted the replacement.

I also machine wire brushed the front struts and all accessable suspension pieces to remove any rust- then zinc primed and painted in chassis black.

The brakes are great now and the car looks better for having clean shiny red sills.[:)][:D]

I also bled the brakes, refurbished three wheel centres (zinc spray and clear coat after wire brushing all corrosion off), fitted a new bonnet badge and repaired one of the front ali strut shields (what do they do???)

Yes, its great when the car passes and you've done the work yourself! I think the 944 is actually quite a DIY friendly car if you're a reasonably competent and experienced home mechanic. Good job I can weld and paint too, just was surprised that I had to weld on my Porsche.

Thats one of the great things with the 944 you can still get your hands dirty on a car that isnt too difficult to understand and there is always great advice on the forum.

Hmm. Mine flew through the test as well on Friday. Didn't need anything doing, and the tester was most complimentary ...

Oli.

Thanks, I think I will repair the other one and re-fit it. Also might give the side skirts a clean up and perhaps a coat of satin black before they go back on, yes, I'm pleased the 944 is DIY friendly and great advice here, I've learnt a lot just reading the posts!

Why has practical classics not looked at the 944 series then??? DIY able, cheap for the car you get, good parts availabillty, relatively economical and practical for a Porsche. Why is it not a practical classic???

Mine is off for its MOT in the morning. eeek, hoping the only issue will come from a cv joint and a sticking reversing light switch. Last year was failed on one component, wishbone. Can be scary when one component can cost so much!!
slightly nervous about 2moz, well the credit card is[:(].
