MOT passed!

Hurrah! My car passed its first MOT while in my hands. (Not the first time, that would have been too much to ask, but it got there with new pads and disks at the front (£235 + VAT) and a couple of new connectors in the windscreen washers. It passed on the retest despite the fact there's a leak in my washer bottle and I had to top it up right there on the floor of the test station! The tester seemed surprised the brakes had cost so much, but I didn't think that was too bad? He did say on first failure that other than the brakes, it was a great car - that made me happy! Just need to take it back to the garage now to have the pad wear wires connected properly, and perhaps to get them to buff out a long sticky mark / scrape they put on my nose panel while doing the brakes [].

Well worth all the time I spent out in the cold drilling out bolts, replacing lights, adjusting lights etc.

Finally, how hard is it to remove the front bumper to get at the washer bottle? I had a look on Clarks Garage but couldn't see anything useful there, nor on this forum apart from for S2s. (Mine is a Lux) As the washer bottle holds so little water, I assume that the connector from the bottle to the headlamp washers has cracked or broken - apparently this is common, and I want to get the bumper off to fix it.

Expenses to date about £900 (had the car for about 9 months, still have a 12 month service to get through, but will do as much as possible of it myself). Still loving the car!

Cheers,

Giles

Well done on your MOT, mine is due in February so will be working on a few bits over the winter.

Incidentally I also have to investigate my headlamp washers as after replacing the motor I then found that the water was pouring out from behind the bumper..... most annoying especially as I had a chew on removing the washer bottle because I managed to push the rubber grommet into it []

Not sure on price of brakes as I replaced my own front discs and pads myself but the parts were around £150 i think from memory, so depending on their labour costs it probably isn't that bad a price. Most places seem to charge over £30 per hour for labour then the dreaded vat on top of that.

When i had both the rear discs and pads replaced, it cost £275. I'm not sure about the front though, so im guessing it sounds roughly about right? [:D]

ORIGINAL: red gm

on my '89 lux, i had a leak from what i thought was the washer bottle which turned out to be the T piece joining the two headlamp washer pipes behind the bumper - fixed by taking out the driving light and having a good grope !

the drain cap on the washer bottle was also dodgy but i discovered that the top off a 'baby bio' plant food bottle makes a perfect (supposed to be temporary) replacement. i'll order one up next time i'm needing parts.

Had exactly the same problem here...

Thanks all - glad to know I did pay a fair price. (I'm not totally confident with the garage - always seem to spend about twice what I intend to and they seem to fix things I didn't think needed it, but perhaps that's just Porsche ownership! Or I'm just too cynical! [&:])

Also hoping that I can sort my washer bottle leak through the hole for the driving light without having to remove the whole bumper, so thanks Red. I've had the driving lights out three times recently, and practice makes perfect! Think I'll get out in the sun now. [:D][8D]

Cheers,

Giles
