MOT test

The car just about passed its MOT test yesterday. The CO2 reading was very high - .12% with a max of .20% - and the tester could not hold a steady 2500rpm as the revs kept falling away. Any thoughts on this? (BTW it may not be that high in relation to the maximum but this reading was only achieved in the last ten seconds or so and went off the scale again afterwards - its also the highest of any car I ever had).

Also, the inner surface of the rear discs is corroded apparently, although the outer surface is OK. Seems odd to me so, again, any thoughts?

The cross-drilled holes are full of dust and need clearing. High pressure air line (H&S issue?) or drill them clear?

And I guess I now need a trolley jack and a torque wrench for the last job. What make and where from would be much appreciated.

Hi Richard

If you look at the suspension geometry you will see there is an element of negative camber. Unless the brakes have been thoroughly dried after cleaning any water retained in the discs will gradually find its way through to the inner surface. Most low mileage vehicles will suffer from this. The solution is replacement of the discs (they are not expensive) and ensure that after cleaning etc they are given some use before being parked up in the garage to remove all moisture.

Thanks Mike - after it was last washed I did about 3 miles to try and dry the discs but it wasn't enough as they were well stuck when I next moved the car. A big fan at the back of the garage might help with this but its a bit of a pain isn't it.
 
I had my rear discs corrode quite severely on the inner faces and ended up changing them. Some good hard use always helps. These cars appear to thrive on being driven round a race track. May help your emission readings also.

Changing rear discs is not a difficult job. All instructions on p-car.com. I would recommend purchasing all genuine Porsche parts.

I agree with pp on the cat front, they can become choked up if not given a good blast from time to time. I routinely run the engine hot before mot time every time now.

I am at Bedford on August 12th so that will cure the corrosion on the discs I hope. I will drill out the holes before then and keep an eye on them - I suppose the last track day didn't help on that front.

For the MOT I ran the car for about 30 minutes -yesterday - and the oil temp was at 10 o'clock so the engine was certainly warm. But its due for a service shortly so I will mention it to Camtune.
