Motion Sensors?

colloc

New member
Hi, I am about to put my 08 997 C4s Cab onto a ferry this weekend are there any sensors that need to be disabled due to the motion of the ship prior to sailing.
Thanks in advance

I have done a number of ferry crossings even overnight and never had any issues. Most of times you are well above the cars and would not even have any access to your vehicle during the journey. They look the doors to the car decks.

I take it you are talking about trackers ? (ie rather than any stability control accelerometers).

I know some units report the car as stolen if it detects the car moving while parked but most aren't that sophisticated. The tracker Horizon and monitor do have motion sensors.

Seem to recall there was something in the owners manual about turning off the interior microwave sensor. As the sensor works on microwave it shouldnt be as prone to triggering as the ultrasonic unit fitted to the earlier 986/996.

If you have Porsche Vehicle Tracking enabled you need to ring them and tell them otherwise you will generate a call / SMS which you probably wont get if you are in the middle of the channel so they will likely report the car as stolen. You cant stop the alert being generated but you can stop them doing anything about it. When I rang them they just took a note of the time, eg, no action on alerts between 10am and 1pm on Friday 18th. Dont think there is anything else. Have a good trip but be careful on the autoroutes. The good road surface and relative emptiness can encourage you to stretch your legs....

I would also call Tracker to let them know you are travelling as I had an alarm while on the Chunnel...

Called Tracker the moment I got a signal in France and the guy on the phone did mention he could see the car moving and the alarm alert was "Vehicle movement without the keys in the ignition".

Regards
Mark
