What R1 members are bikers??!!
Sometimes we hit the roads on 2 wheels rather than the 4 so was just
wondering if anyone else would be interested.

Oh....we go 2 up as well so partners more than welcome!!

I had no idea you were into bikes Kim, what do you ride?

After a 20 year love affair with bikes, I sold the last of mine a couple of years back, and put the money towards my Cayman. I owned and rode pretty much everything, from scooters, trailies, sports bikes, right thro to my Harley ElectraGlide. I felt the bike scene had stagnated a bit, and I wasn't enjoying it the way I used to, so I called it a day. I confess I was also getting increasing worried about the irresponsible behaviour of some sports bike riders on Sunday afternoons on some of the more popular Scottish roads, and frankly I did not want to be associated with that, the more so after coming upon a fatal bike crash a few years back.

I was also the bike columnist for The Scotsman for a while, so you can do some armchair biking with a few of my old pieces here http://www.arthurlea.com/storyindex.htm and some pictures of my collection over the years here http://www.arthurlea.com/Toys/Formertoys.htm

Well Mr H you are a dark horse aren't you. I'm not allowed to sit my bike test, the OH would be
more worried than I am when he goes a run. Besides, I struggle to reach the ground if you know what I mean!!
SOOOOO, I go pillion, and take in the views!!!

We've always had Ducatis......a 748 and now a CRAP monster. I have to admit, I feel like a cripple
after a run on those, that's when I realise what it must be like when your old and can't straighten up!! BUT, luckily enough, I've a friend with a big comfy bike who I go out with a few times a month.

I love it!!

Oh....here's that friend of mine at Crinin Canal!

[:D][:D][:D] If only Dougie.....I'd be the bad, leather clad biker girl with the bad reputation for going tooooo fast!

Shame you can't sit your test Kim, there are now some excellent bikes out there with low seat heights. The Honda Helix that I used to own had a seat that anyone could use, and it was a hoot to ride, a much misunderstood wee bike. Wish I'd kept it (how often have I said that!)

A mate of mine has a 748, a lovely thing, but I wouldn't be a pillion on that at the point of a gun. Sports bikes are really not designed for two up (IMHO) and if you want to ride pillion properly you need something like a 'Glide with a backrest. Eileen has been known to fall asleep on the back of my 'Glide, it was so comfy.

What does Scotty ride? (didn't know that either)

I got bored with bike design, it has tunnelled itself down a dead end, with nothing but ever more extreme sports bikes which are simply unusable on the roads. I have for years been a member of the FF Group (Feet Forward) and I would love it if someone would develop a true sporting "feet forward" bike. Honda recently brought out the DN-01 (which I tried) but it is too compromised toward style, rather than function. Shame, cos it is the only thing that would tempt me back onto two wheels again. I was missing fresh air motoring, but simply could not find a bike I wanted, so that's why I bought the MX5.

Have to admit I love the 748/916......they are the Ferraris of the bike world or should I say
the Porsches of the bike world!!

I think a few of the guys have bikes ..Alistair Loban. and Raymond Boyd . Bill Main . and Griff had one for a time

Oh I have so many captions suited to that picture John, but for the sake of our friendship I'll keep them to myself! [;)] see you soon. AKx

One favourite with the vertically challenged (I'm 5' 7" on a good day) is the Yamaha Virago 535. Pleasant little cruiser, ideal for the 'A' roads. Enjoyed riding mine up in Scotland, especially the road from Tyndrum to Oban (three times!).
Not made anymore but good examples are available at not silly money.
Can't recommend the Honda VFR 400R as I came off mine, handled like a dream and lively for a four hundred cc.

Go for it Kim.

Cheers,

John........for a minute I thought you were Mick Hucknall of Simply Red!!!:ROFLMAO:

Fred......if I ever did, it would be an Aprillia!! Fast and suited for the vertically challenged!!![:)]

And Mr L......stop rubbing that 1 point in!!![:(]

Not me Brian, I've no intention to become an organ donor never have been. As John says too many reckless sports bikers down here. If I ever had a bike it would need to be the Harley Davidson Fat Boy for me.
