MotorSound airbox lid

Hi

I'm looking for a little extra noise from my 993 when driven hard. Has anyone experience of swapping from std to the MotorSound air box lid (without other mods) and is able to comment on the difference?

Where is the best place to get one from and how much should I expect to pay? Are they still available from OPCs or is it better to wait for a used one to become available for sale?

Many thanks

Feroz

I can't comment on the sound difference but if you can't find a Motorsound box then you can get a secondhand standard lid and cut the holes yourself. This old thread on Rennlist has a great picture about half way down comparing the standard and motorsound boxes http://rennlist.com/forums/993-forum/246924-porsche-motorsound-2.html. Ignore the bit about the rubber plug at the end as that is where the clutch vent pipe should go.

Also if you put "porsche 993 drilled airbox" into google there is also lots of info on DIY. Of course you won't get the fake chrome around the inlet opening with a drilled standard box.

Ian.

Hi Ian

Thanks for the suggestion. My inclination is not to do anything unless it makes a difference to be honest but may look for a damaged / cut up one and try it.

ive got one on mine when i 1st got the c2
it was a porsche item its on a bill from last owner
i like the sound above 5k
it just adds a bit more oooommmppphhh i recon
i only have std exhausts on at the moment
but still sounds great.

I managed to pick one up for c£60 off ebay but they very rarely go that cheap, anything under £100 is a decent price for one.

If I hadn't got one at a price I could get back for it I would have gone the DIY route though ;-)

That is exactly what I am looking for - unobtrusive under normal driving and a little more induction noise when having some fun.

Thanks for the suggestion, will keep an eye out on ebay.

I have recently ordered a Motorsound airbox from my OPC and it's much cheaper than they are currently being offered on ebay - worth a call I would say.

For what Porsche term as a 'classic model' the OPC will always be cheapest for a genuine Porsche part. Classic models used to be 993 and earlier but I think the 996 might have recently been classified into the classic grouping. I believe the 10% discount available to us is the max discount that anybody (including trade) can get on classic parts where as the modern stuff has different discount rates available for the public and trade.

It is always worth checking the price on a part from the OPC. Some things can be surprisingly cheap.

Just called the OPC and they can't seem to find it. Does anyone know thw part number please? Had a look on the web but can't seem to find it.

Thanks!

Thanks Ian, very helpful. After first trying to sell me a motor sound package for £400 (which included exhaust trims), he found an air box cover in stock and gave it to me for £45 which seemed pretty good.

Appreciate the help everyone.

sounds a good deal there - it was £69.88 ordered in from my OPC and I thought I was doing quite well.
