so I have finally traded my faithful 996 3.4 C2 and got a 997 C2S on a 05 with 24,000 mls, so far I love it, its a great move on from the 996, I understand with the 3.8 engine that the problems are less? my main question though is the soft ware version in my PCM is 1, how to I change this and is it worth it? I have noticed the GPS maps are very out of date and certain roads are not on it, any help really appreciated

You need to look at the 997 Forum a bit more. [;)]

I think you need to purchase a new disc for PCM 2. Do a forum search as there are some internet links.

BTW don't forget to let Jade at HQ know of your vehicle change membership@porscheclubgb.com and she'll transfer you over to 997 Register.

Clive

A 2005 car would be PCM1 ? so would assume that you have the DVD drive in the boot for the navigation.
A search on here should point you in the correct direction for a replacement DVD disc.
The original discs from dealers are quite pricey- unlike the nice new update they are doing for the newer owners at just £149

Some will say that a TomTom or the likes are better, so depends on how you're going to use the car.
I did a lot of tours so did upgrade mine to newer mapping as I didn't want the cables everywhere..

Congratulations on the new motor [:)]

I have also been sniffing around 997's (C2S) what are the engine problems, RMS, IMS and bore score ?
How many people are still seing these problems, the general concensus for 996 normally aspirated is 5%
I can buy a 997 but do not have the spare 10k for a rebuild [:(]

Thanks for the replays, the pcm status is still unclear despite a search on the forum, Porsche want £500 to provide discs but no clear line of what you get for it?

Yes the car is manual, has anyone tried a Dennison unit for Bluetooth etc on the pcm

Hi

So still struggling with the PCM, all programmed to my settings, but some say its a 2.1 and others its a PCM1, I thought the PCM 1 was with cassette and the later with CD and drive in the boot is the 2.1, I have seen discs on ebay offering later years than mine, are these worth a look? also is it only a dealership that can update the software as mine is version 1, has anyone found a better solution?

I've just re-read and Yes I should have said a PCM2 which has the CD slot and DVD drive in the boot for the Sat-nav
Those discs can be purchased online for a lot less money.
Sat-navi was the company I used last time.

I bought a disc update from ebay and it worked fine. It came with 2012 maps as well which on my car (2007 997 Turbo) didn't even need the software to be updated, just put the disc in and it worked. I did however gain the 5 digit post code entry from the upgrade so it was well worth it.
