just a short note, to thank everyone for their help with the very few issues ive had with my 996 over the last 3 years.
I sadly parted with it this afternoon, picking up a 997 gen2 - will be fondly missed

I think there is a place for everything, and every model. but given that I used the 996 every day, for work, for fun, you name it - ive moved to the 997 for the reliability and, here this will make you laught - the economy!! ! ! ! !!
 
Oh dear, I've definitely done the reverse by changing to the 996 TT then. Still struggling to get 15 mpg but the novelty of making everything go actually go in reverse hasn't worn off. Health to enjoy the 997 - it is a fantastic car.
