Moving from a 997 to a Cayenne?

My kids are complaining my 997S cab is too small for them so need something a bit bigger. I drove a Panamera and found it dull, massive with vague steering.

Thinking of a Cayenne, which model is the best to drive, most responsive and 997 like. Was suggested the Cayenne GTS. Budget up to £50k for a used one. What options are worth having?

For that budget go for a 2008 or 2009 Turbo or even a Turbo S is available for around £50k and then you get all the options anyway! Otherwise air suspension, parking sensors, heated seats and mirrors.
 
Don't do it! Buy an Espace or something and keep your 911.

Forget the gts, and get a turbo. I have had two, and they are great. No one expects you to be as fast as they are. I bought a 2008 one last year for sub 30k (great value)
 
James, I bought my Cayenne turbo last week for the same reasons.

You cannot deny the performance, level of equipment and finish.
My only complaint is that in comparison to my other cars it handles like a Hippo on a pogostick!

That's the compromise you get in exchange for the space.
 
Hippo on a pogostick!!!! Can't deal with that. The 997s Cab has loads of headroom with the roof off and can fit Christmas trees etc inside. I'm tempted by a Bentley continental GT as can get a decent one for sub £40k.
 
Back to the OP - the Cayenne handles really well for a 4x4, a few of the 997 boys will tell you it keeps up on Club runs pretty well [:D]
A GTS would be the best for handling/performance/economy - my V8S with Air suspension is a great car, the steel springs make the ride a bit bouncy (my first one had that system).
As for extras, the sunroof is a must IMO. And a spare wheel [:eek:]
 
Turbo S, 21.6 mpg (average over 6k miles) 4.7 sec 0-60, 172mph (if you ever go anywhere to use it) with cheap second set of alloys and proper winter tyres Vredestein windtrac 4s and it will also go up a snowy mountain has proper 4x4 credentials. Really comfy ride for long distance or set it hard and low for performance. Only downside everybody hates you on the road and other porsche drivers look the other way. Build quality top notch and for such a complicated vehicle reliability good but buy from opc to get 2 years warranty peace of mind.

The new Cayenne Turbo with torque vectoring & PDCC handles beautifully. A 911 on stilts & I get about 27 mpg.

Agree with everything you say apart from MPG....

Over the last 18k miles in my Tiptronic S average MPG is 15.4.... Admittedly mainly city driving and with a light right foot... I assume your driving is mainly motorways or A roads...?
