Moving the seat back - only 5 bolt holes

Moved my driver's seat back to the "rear" position today (it's only an extra inch leg room but I've been meaning to do it for 18 months).

Anyone else done this?

I ask because, having seen that there are bolt holes for this when I had passenger seat out to fix a rattle ages back, when I moved the driver's seat today I realised at the last minute there is no hole for one of the bolts (the rear most of the two at the back of the seat by the transmission tunnel). Or is there some clever trick I have missed?
 
Hi Mark - when I had my 993-4S, I moved the seat right back as far as it could go -I seem to remember having to re-drill the runner though to get all the bolts back in. The rear of the seat used to then 'push' into the carpet leaving about a 2" gap between the hard seat back and the rear squab.
Did wonders though for accomodating my 6'2" frame!
Was easy to do - just watch what your doing when hauling the chair out!

Yes, very easy to get the 1 inch extra.
Seat right back, undo the two bolts you can see just inside the front of the rails
Seat right forward, undo the four bolts (2 each side) - just inside the back of the rails.
Now don't try to adjust the seat while the rails are not fixed because, if you do, the rails will get out of sync with each other
If you try to lift seat you will find it's much heavier than you'd expect
Edge the seat back about 1 inch and you will see pre-threaded holes ready to accept same bolts
Put them back in - job done

As I said, however, one of the two rear bolts on the centre of car side does not have a hole once you have moved it back. As suggested above I guess you could drill a hole in the rail.

You need a good sharp allen key (6mm). The bolts were very tight and someone had tried to get one of mine out with a poor fitting key and slightly rounded it. But I got it out in the end. You're also best to have one of those allen keys with a "sphere" on one end because, once you have the bolts loose you have a lot of turns to make to remove them and your seat will prevent you getting the key in directly from above.
 
I've thought about doing this too. Do you not have slightly less headroom if you move the seat back though? [8|]

Yes, I guess that is true. But you can always choose not to put seat on rear-most notch on days when you fancy a bit of head room and less leg room. I seem to have long legs and a short body!

Definitely felt more comfortable driving to office this morning.
 
So are you running with just 5 bolts now ??

6'4 and need all the legroom i can get, but not brave enough to drill holes in my new baby yet , some reassurance needed !!!
 
I moved the seat back on my car some months ago. Very easy to do except my seat is now held on with four bolts instead of the original six. The seat seems just as solid as before. I have kept the extra bolts and will discuss having holes drilled for the others when the car next goes in for a service. I found that the extra inch does make a difference but as I was still a little cramped I have fitted a smaller 340mm Freeway airbag steering wheel from Raid. This company appears to be the only one that makes suitable airbag wheels for the Porsche. It's not a bad looking replacement and being black fits in with the colour of the dash. Having the smaller wheel makes a huge difference, the only down side being that it slightly obscures the speedo.

On a slightly different tack: I was booked for speeding the other day at 80mph on a 70mph dual carriageway. Do you think if I had being driving a family hatchback, or something, they would have bothered?

Well they do have to fund that pay rise somehow :ROFLMAO: Ouch, only joking!

Next we'll be done for excessive G when accelerating from 0-10mph....

Top tip - I found it a bit easier if you raise the electric seat to it's highest level. Just about gave me enough room to get a quarter inch socket drive on it.
 
Not done this myself, but have had the seats out at various times. I found on mine that the allen bolts screw into a captive plate which is not fixed in place but 'floats' in the mounting runners. The ends of the mountings on the floor of the car are merely taped over with black tape. If you remove this tape you can move this floating plate and perhaps find that elusive extra hole. As I say, not moved my seat back being a runt an' all, but worth a shot before accepting less mounting holes for your seat.
