Moving to Scotland

Somewhat off topic but am seeking advice. Looks like I will be relocated to work in Glasgow. Quite like Milngavie and Bearsden, but not much choice of houses with double garage.

Would appreciate some guidance on other good places to live maybe with more choice of garages (with house attached!) Someone mention East Kilbride but I dont know the area at all.

Want to be within 30mins drive of southern general hospital, ideally with train option but not as important as garages as I understand you dont pay for station car parking?

In advance of any assistance please accept my thanks

Regards
Darren

30 Mins of Southern general is a big area EK probably as close/good as Bearsden & Milgavie

What about Bridge of Weir direction?

I'd have though any half decent Estate agent whould be able to help if you gave him a specific requirement like a double garage (or being able to build one)

Helensburgh or Balloch are good areas with railway links into Glasgow and a 20 to 25 min drive to Southern General unless you go in rush hour when add 10 mins or so.

I have a house in E-K enlarged double garage and off road parking for 15 cars for £300K if you want [:D][:D]
E-K does not have a rail link to the SG the trains go to central station (40mins) then a subway to Govan 15mins and a 10 min walk would be your only way in.
By car it would take you 50mins on a good day SG is on the south side of the river Clyde
Try Rightmove

If you see an area and post it up we will give you an idea of how good the area is also a budget would help and the double garage will restrict your choice

I was giving him a discount as a PCGB member [:D][:D]....not many double garages in sunny Govan
I think the only link is by subway to city centre

There's two words you dont expect to see together Brian and discount[:D][:D]

How is elsie?

One of my neighbours is up for sale complete with double garage. Its in High Burnside 5 mins drive to burnside train station (parking available) then train to central and subway out. http://www.gspcmembers.co.uk/sws/pacittijones/sch_PropInfo.asp?page=&ref=165670 see link.

Doing fine splint off..told to not lift heavy things will take a few weeks for it to heal and set , so still doing my house husband .

Darren, all depends on your budget - north side of the city is very nice - milingaive - bearsden etc -, the equivalent on the south side is newton mearns / whitecraigs / thorntonhall / giffnock etc, west of of city is very good also but only certain areas - all of these places are on the higher end of the price bracket, some have good train city links and many you could walk to the train station,

suggest you speak to slater hogg and corum estate agents in both newton mearns and milingavie as a starting point, they deal with the upper end of the house mainly,

or give me a buzz if you wish to discuss - my X is an estate in the west end,

regards

Good luck with your search. I can tell you about living west of the airport e.g. Houston/Bridge of Weir/Kilmacolm/Lochwinnoch. Easy access to the SGH via the M8. I'm downsizing in the spring so if you want 10 mins driving to work and garaging for lots of cars in a farm steading, get in touch!

Darren, welcome to Scotland.....ahem now for the hard sell.....only kidding....I have a 5 year old 5 bed house with single-door double garage which I got Murcielago and 911 in side by side easily so not sure if your buying or renting but I might be interested in either depending on the price.

It would be a a bit higher than 300 but not much and would be happy to discuss it more if you want my number then I would be happy to tell you more about the area.

The house is in 29 Patrickbank Wynd, Elderslie, PA5 9US (google maps) and is road facing with a stream in front of it so is not a through road which helps keeps passers by out.

My wife and I have separated so we are selling our properties and we are soon to have two estate agents value it so it's not up for sale just yet, but it is a great build by Walker Group, and if I get the chance would buy again from them in a second as their finish is very good and the materials and whole service of buying and moving in was excellent. Not the usual horror stories thankfully.

Best of luck in the search, Paul.

That would be true if they were there Dougie, but now alass it is an empty garage as I don't live there anymore but still own it.

Cheers for the thought fella.

Double garages in Govan will quickly be emptied [:D]. I don't think it's a 10min walk from the underground station to SGH... at least 15mins unless you power walk. You need to consider the traffic during rush hour and I don't think you will make SGH in 30mins from EK unless you leave very early. If you can afford Pollokshields with the lovely old houses then it's the closest posh area to SGH - but you'll need to send your kids to private school if you end up living there.

All,

Many thanks for all the advice - my weekly flights up are going to run for a while yet but at least I have something to go on. The company are in the process of taking some apartments, so that will tie me over - but will be car-less for the time being.

Do you guys do many track days or similar?

cheers Darren
