MP3 Head Unit

I am not really intrested in going to town with my audio set up in my 993 as that is not why I have the car... It's for drving and most of the time I enjoy listening to the sound the car makes. Anyway its too noisy for good sound unless I spend ££££'s and I'd rather put that kind of money back into the car.

Although I would like to play MP3 via CDR and at the same time I would like to keep the dash looking as close to original as possible. At the moment I have the original Becker "Porsche" badged CDR21 and I want to keep as close to that as possible. I do not need DAB/Navigation etc... just a nice not too pricey head unit to play MP3 from CD. So keeping with Becker for the design I am thinking of a "Monza" or "Mexico Pro" - The Mexico is slightly more in price and I can't see why I should go for that over the Monza.

- Questions does anyone know if I can use the same connections that exist for my CDR21 to fit a new Becker ?

- Any reason why I should spend more on a Mexico Pro over a Monza giving my basic requirements ?

(It does look like the Monza does not have a detachable panel..... which could swing it - although for the 993 I prefer the square lines of the Monza)

Your thoughts please.....

Personally, I would go for an IPOD and plug it into the aux connections in the back of the unit.

No need to have to burn discs then have them kicking about the car!

connections are the same... as long as you have the keys to pull 'em out... let me know as I can lend you mine !

as I replaced my CDR21 with the Becker Traffic Pro (HS) and the installation took 'minutes'........ a simple DIY job..

have you checked the comparision tables on the www.becker.de site ? (under 'producr overview) very useful (which will also confirm the secutiry features of each..)

Mexico has a flip down for the CD insertion.. as with Traffic Pro.. which is v.useful for security as well !

Thanks I looked into using my portable MP3 but I have a thing about any form of additional stuff in my car including MP3 players - phone holders etc.... I like it as it came from the factory. I only put up with the Snooper GPS and TomTom Navigation when really needed as I hate looking at the extras.....

So looks like the Mexico Pro then ..... seen it online for £350.

Sundeep will I really need those keys to get the CDR21 out, will the new Becker come with keys I can use ??

Another thing Sundeep.... With the harder suspension on the "S" I find on the bad roads we have here in the UK the CDR21 does skip quite a bit with CD play. Did you have the same problem and have you noticed an improvement with these latest models ?

Will,
you will need the radio removal keys, 0.70p from OPC or £6 plus £4 postage on ebay !!
I beleive halfords do an equiv. set but are more expensive and naff quality.

Ive the Sony MP3 cd player and it does jump occasionally.

Haven't really experience any skipping problems even on the london roads...... I can only assume the newer Beckers are improved, which is what I would expect...

new unit 'should' come with the keys IIRC

Thanks for that Phil.... [:D] Although I thought I'd covered that angle with my preamble at the start of this thread.

My main soundtrack is the Flat 6 through the RSB's............. talking of which how are those SSI's ?

Becker Mexico Pro Fitted - happy with it and retains the original look.

Mp3's from CDR works well.

All plugged straight in the only thing I needed to do was take the cradle out as it was too small for the new unit and the feeding the cable back in to allow the unit to slide fully in was a little fiddly.....

aye.. forget about that one.... ! a tight fit cradle-less...... needing one hell of a push !

otherwise a piece of cake to fit !

radio reception is much much better now [:D] the benefit of twin RDS tuners...

Forgot to mention at the time that the removal keys that came with new Becker worked to remove the CDR21 - don't buy any - I did but luckily not the most expensive item I have bought from OPC parts....
