I have a 2001 996 3.4 WITH PCM ( 4s)

Is it correct that the Range, Outside Temperature Speed Signal Average Consumption and Average Speed Do not show on the Main Speedometer

I do not have my PCM/ Sat Nav and Radio switched on all the time and would like to see it as per the non PCM cars

Thanks

Richard S

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the type of display (below) is only on the 3.6 facelift or turbo models.

This from the 3.4 Manual. Not sure if having PCM overrides this AS you see MPG Etc. shown - Nothing on mine (Late 3.4) Thanks

You have to have the OBC option to see the readings. If you don't have it, it can be retrofitted. 996.2 came with OBC as standard.

Thanks Richard When you say you have a choice who can retrofit it - Presumably Porsche Centre (Ask the guy who knows) Richard

Ive looked at the ones on eBay but theve been removed How do I get hold of the DIY kit. I presume it means fitting a new Column mount. I have it on my PSM but would like it on the Rev Counter. Guess I should get the 4 Column munt so I can fit Cruise as well Thanks

Those kits on eBay were mine, and it was 4 years ago, so that's why they have been removed! The OBC stalk is detachable from the central stalk switch, so it can be relatively easy to retrofit. Look in the Technical Articles section - there is an overview of what is involved.

If you look at my reply to your post in the For Sale section, I did offer to put an OBC kit together for you. If you wanted to add cruise then I couldn't help with a 4-stalk unit, so you would have to get a new one, or buy a second hand one from eBay or a Porsche breaker. I'd be happy to send you a wiring diagram, but the cruise retrofit on the 2001 model is a bit more long-winded than on a post 2002 car, because you have to run wires back to the DME unit behind the rear seats. All do-able, but it depends on the level of work you want to do. I can't recall where you are located, but the two places which spring to mind if you want someone to do it for you are Wrightune in Wallingford, Oxon, or Revolution Porsche in Brighouse, W Yorks.

its quattro (lower case) Had loads of these loved em but Absolutely love me Porsche. Just wish I could afford a Turbo but then could not enjoy it as my wfe had a number of brain operations and has motion sickness Incidentally live in Shrewsbury (Lotton Park) - Dave Griffiths is our local specialist - cant get much better than that - also have used POrsche Shop seem OK No rush going for 10 days in Lincolnshire to watch the Two Lancasters Flying around Coninsby Regards

Its so good to see someone who knows the Queen's English. I've also had 4. One which is not in the list. 1n 1988 I bought one from an Audi Dealer in Cannock. It ended up quite modified Over 300 b.h.p. I think it was quicker than the Porsche but maybe my memory !! Did have a couple of Quattro Coupes which actually wernt a bad car

I’m from Sweden and I have almost the same question as richardjjs1, the only difference is that I have cruise control and a 3-stack in my -01 996. I planning to replace my PCM1 unit with à modern dubble din unit, but I would like to keep the info about outside temp etc and to do that I have to instal the info in the instrumental cluster. I would appreciste a lot if you Richard_Hamilton, or someone else, could give me the wiring diagram and tell me how I should do this moreover. As a sidenote I did install the cruise control myself a few years ago with wirering to the DME unit and replacement from 2 to 3 stack. I hope that I don’t need to do wiring to DME again.

Welcome! You don't need to wire to the DME. Only between the stalk and instrument cluster. Send me a PM wi[link=https://www.porscheclubgb.com/forum/tm.aspx?m=845311]t[/link]h your email addess, and I'll send you some instructions and a wiring digram.
