Having recently bought my first 911 - 3.2 Targa and loving it !!- I have a SOny CD radio installed (brand new) that won't pick up a MW signal from the screen aerial the car has. I've tried other head units in case there was a fault, but none will pick up MW. Alas, no 5live !!

Any ideas ?

Invest in a nice sports exhaust; drive with the targa down or windows open;. select journeys that pass through as many tunnels as possible - problem solved.

Not very scientific, but much more satisfying !

Sorry,. that wasn't very helpful was it!....... I have an Alpine head unit and screen ariel set up and have no problems at all.

Now to be more helpfull....

Has the windscreen been changed at anytime recently?.....check through your pile of receipts.

With some of these young guys that come out and fit screens I wonder if they have not connected the wire at the screen base to the ariel properly. You can check it by removing the clock. The connection is just behind it.

Would have thought that this would have prevented all stations though, unless you're in a weak AM signal area.

This might help?

(the relevant bit:
In some cars the aerial must be matched to the radio for good MW and LW reception. This can easily be achieved by tuning the radio to a weak MW station and adjusting the radio's aerial trimmer. Consult the manufacturer's handbook for information on where to locate the aerial trimmer. )

Hi,
I was always under the impression that the extenal ariel was for FM and that the intenal arial was for MW and LW.

But I could be wrong! (Wouldn't be the first time!)

Greetings
There isn't a second aerial for AM, just the one in the screen. Me thinks the problem is that the aerial amplifier 12 volt feed has not been connected, thus resulting in poor AM and average FM. If you find the aerial lead under dash thats plugged in to your stereo and follow it back you should find attached a black lead that runs alond side it and dissappeares towards the clocks. That lead is your 12 volt feed and should connected to the "auto. aerial" output feed from the stereo, usually a blue lead with a white tracer.
However Sony units have two switched output feeds one is for the aerial and the other for a remote feed for an booster/amplifier of some sort. Both leads are blue with a coloured tracer, it doesn't matter which one you use.
When you find this lead connect it via a low value fuse, say 3amps (just in case its the wrong one) to the blue lead. Then listen to a WEAK AM station, and by removing and reconnecting that wire it would make a noticable difference to the reception, and if it does you know you've got the right wire.
Good luck and don't blow it up[:D]
