My 1st crash with my new 997c2

Late last night I did something very stupid with my year old 997. Waiting at a trafic light and the street being empty (Athens, Greece) I had the brilliant idea to test the car without the PSM. I made a U turn and the result was a crash on an electric pillar. The good thing was that it happened with a low speed so the damage is limited in the front part of the car (lid, mask, wheels, cooling system etc). Does anyone have any advice as to what I should pay attention in to during the repair? Thank you in advance!
 
Nightmare! These very boyish ideas seem so good at the time. Hopefully there was no one hurt and you didn't put anyone in danger. Presumably you'll be taking the car to your Porsche centre who will do the job professionally - check the usual: colour match, original stickers replaced under the lids, alignment of panel etc, and that it's free from rattles and squeeks on the move. To be honest, if its a minor prang and Porsche sort it out, you'll never know the difference.
 
Dapster thanks for the input. You are right, it was very childish from my behalf and it's a good thing nobody got hurt. Nobody was onboard and the streets were empty when I tried the stunt! My big concern is that the dealer of Porsche in Greece (there is only one) is very stupid and their service quality really bad, so I need to know everything I can in order to check their repair work.

Who ever feels liking moking me, feel free, I deserve it!

Do your homework first before deciding on the OPC especially if you don't like them. Find from other owners of high-end vehicles and get recommendations. I for one WILL NOT take my car to the OPC recommended repairer (standard is too low for me). I would rather take my car to a reputable, but not so posh repairer.

Harry thanks for your thoughts but the problem in Athens is that officially Porsche came to Greece (through a representative) about 6 years ago (until then who ever wanted a Porsche would have to import it himself!). Because of this there are no other workshops that one can take his car to! There is one that I heard of but he is not officially recognized from Porsche so if he works on the car, there goes the guaranty.
Anyway drove the car to the official workshop on Thursday, and had a nice talk with the head mechanic. I told him that I've lost my confidence in their work because of an incident that happened when I brought in the car for the 3000km oil change (they overfilled the oil and when I called to report it their answer was "do you think we would do something to hurt your car" but when after 5000km I brought it in again for a windshield change they admitted they were wrong and pumped out the extra oil) and that subsequently the I had the 30000km service done in Italy. The guy sounded very apologetic and I hope this time they'll do the job the way it should be done!

p.s. I'm changing tyres - any suggestions? I'm looking in to the Pirelli PZero Rosso Asymetrico (1600€) - keep in mind that no winter tyres are needed in Greece

Well here's the thing.........I just looked into the same make and model and the 295/30/18 for the rear of my 996 are porsche rated N5. But the 225/40/18 for the front are not!!. Pirelli have confirmed this direct. Do Porsche by any chance use drag racing "funny cars" for their tyre approvals. i.e the fronts are dangling in the air and superfluous?
 
My tyres are 19inch diameter and I will know about the n rating tomorrow morning. Just for you to compare prices, the ones you looked for cost 1200€ in a shop I found here in Athens.
As for your other comment, I think it's pretty well known that Porsche has a drawback in the way the weight is distributed front and back and the change in behaviour is easily spotted when you place a bag in the trunk.
I will inform you tomorrow how much the 19inch Pirelli's cost.

You were not in Syngrou Avenue looking at the talent and lost control........by the way take it back to the factory on your insurance for a factory repair...looks at least 20,000 euro expensive night in Syngrou...all the best[&:]

I do like all these new 997 owners who like to turn off the PASM to give us a laugh.. not the 1st and certainly not the last !
 
I agree that in this case trying a donut for the first time on a public road was foolish. A track or airfield would have been more suitable. We all have something to learn. In Sundeep's case it's the fact that PASM can't be turned off only switched to sport mode. It's the PSM that our freind decided to manage without.
 
The 19inch Pirellis cost 1600 euros and are both front and rear n rated (I think they told me n5). Does anybody know what the number folloeing the n stands for?
 
The number represents a later or earlier approval rating. The higher the number, the newer the approval rating.

As you will have seen from my earlier post, there is an N5 rating for the rear Pirellis, but not for the fronts. The only way the dealer could be correct in quoting N5 all round is if the approval ratings have been awarded to 19" tyres, but not the 18" which I have.
