MY 2003 disc and pads replacement kit

Hi,

A couple of questions I'd be grateful for some help on:

1. I rang Euro Car Parts to order the above, assuming that they would know exactly what the kit consisted of - i.e., how many shims, plates, etc. They were less than helpful - so I was wondering if anybody can point me to a list of what I'll need to get the job done - just don't want to get the wheels off and then find there are bits missing!

2. I've read some threads about drilled v. non-drilled discs in relation to the potential corrosion issues. On balance what are member's views as to which discs I should buy?

Many thanks,
Mike.

When I replaced them a little while ago (discs and pads all round) I used the following:

Discs - Sebro fronts and genuine Porsche rears (I used cross drilled but that's because it's an S model and had them on all ready). The Sebro's are great and were quite a bit cheaper but seem to be the same quality. I couldn't find a cheaper brand for cross drilled rears, but if you decide to stick with non-drilled there are quite a few brands.

Pads - Textar (as this is basically what the Porsche ones are without the Porsche box and a whole lot cheaper)

Damper plates - I don't think the 2.7 model uses these but they act to stop brake squeal, etc. Might be worth buying some anti-squeal paste.

Brake pad retaining kit - basically a sping and bolt but a good idea to replace (on a 2.7 this is the same part for front or rear brakes)

Caliper bolts - debate whether you need to change these or not but they are quite cheap so I did

Wear sensors - only if the old pads have wore down so far that you have damaged one, they apparantly can be a pain to remove but mine came out okay. Again it might be worth having a spare just in case.

Whilst you are at it you might as well change the break fluid as this is really easy. I use ATE super blue fluid.

A good quality anti-seize grease for when fitting disc to the hub, etc.

I found all of the parts to be readily available from Eurocarparts.

The first link will show you the parts I am on about and the next link is a guide for the work.

Hey Steve - many thanks: really helpful stuff. As I've also got the S, your comprehensive note will come in very handy......

Cheers!
Mike.

Steve,
To add to your comments, you correct in saying the "Damper plates" are not fitted as standard on the 2.7 model, but you can use the "S" Dampers.

I must say they make a big difference to both the "feel" of the brakes and most importantly the loud "Clicking" noise (roof down) completely goes away when releasing the foot brake pedal.

The Damper plates are not cheap, but for me worth the extra money as an quick 2.7 brake upgrade.

Regards,
Chris.

Hi Mike,
In that case you will need to remember to buy the 2 different sets of retaining kits as for the S it is a different part number for the front & rear axles.

Also as has been highlighted, you will definitely need the damper plates. The ones for the front axle (need 4) are a rectangular pad, the ones for the rear axle are little discs of which you need 4 each of the 28mm and 30mm sizes.

Steve.
