My 3.2 live remap and detailing - the results

I thought some of you may be interested in the results I have had from a live re-map.

I trusted Wayne Schofield at Chip Wizards in Rochdale (who else!) to do the re-map (he did my previous 993 a couple of times) and the results were both surprising and quite remarkable:

The only modifcation to the car is a K&N filter which I had put on a couple of months back. Otherwise it was standard which Wayne confirmed.

The 'before' dyno run showed 243 bhp and 221 lbft. Now we all know that Porsche quoted 231bhp and and 210 lbft but very few actually produced this, with as low as 218 bhp not uncommon. Wayne thought the car had been chipped. However, after removing the ECU and taking out chip it hadn't. To say I was impressed was an understatement.

Wayne then worked his magic over the next 3 hours but the car was running so well as standard the best he could manage was 252 bhp and 233 lbft. Not that I was disappointed as any gain is worth having and I now know it is working at optimal efficiency. Interestingly, he couldn't get a single bhp from the mid range - a couple from the bottom and most from the top (when he did my 993 we got somewhere between 15 and 20bhp throughout the entire rev range and a massive increase in torque in the mid range which peaked at 278 lb ft).

Wayne reprogrammes your existing chip so I always feel happier with this than having an aftermarket. Wayne is the man so I'd happily recommend anyone to visit him.

PS - fuel was Shell V Power which is now 99 Octane and undoubtedly helped. Also, anyone who has used Wayne's dyno knows that it doesn't overread, in fact, it always reads less by up to 10bhp than others I have had my cars on.

Glyn O'Donnel of Carnossieur detailed my car yesterday (using Swissvax I think, though he previously used Zymol) and it looks stunning (he also detailed my 993 which repeatedly won street concours). I have only had the 3.2 a few months and though it had been looked after it was just a 'clean' example rather than a cossetted example. Glyn has restored the leather, cleaned the carpets (cream to match linen leather so must have taken some doing), restored the paintwork, almost completely rid the car of the one nasty scratch it had and generally made it oh so beautiful. Glyn is so worth using, even if it's just your birthday or Christmas treat, far better than 'another' watch.

Hey Lee couldnt agree more - Wayne is a top chap and knows his stuff! When I had my remap done - he was the only man I trusted to do my car!

Sounds like a result, but I'm not sure how possible what you have said really is!! The default expectation of the ecu is 91 ron if I remember correctly. So re progammng to take advanage of the fuel alone would out perform the default configuation!! The other way to make more power is the use of a free flowing exhaust, which again will need more programming. So maybe the chip has already been modified? Interested in others thoughts!!

Bones, would be great to meet up again, are you planning to attend next years Le Mans Classic, a group of 16 of us have hired a Chateau about 20 clicks form the curcuit

I intend going to the Le Mans classic but I can't say for sure yet as I'm starting my International Guitar School next year. Staying in a chateau sounds like a great idea, hope it's not haunted by vampires and like Berny I'd like 20 chicks too. [:D]

20 Chicks within 20 clicks, I haven't found that "Establishment" yet, but I'll keep an eye open for a Red lighted building [8D]

As Vic says - ask Wayne.

However, I thought the default setting for Rest of World Cars was 95 Ron, at least I felt sure that was the case on my 89 car. The US cars had to drink that rubbish they call Gas at 91 Ron so presumably had different settings to ROW cars.

Of course I could just be dreaming that I have read this.

Very possible lee!! Most of what I read is American, although I seem to remember steve wong talking about it when I bought my chip from him, but anyhoo.. This thread hasn't really gone the direction i was hoping!!
