Hi , Thought I would just pop a couple of images of my recently purchased( August ) Targa, work in progress project, this is the car that replaced my 964 Targa which I sold and regretted as it went off the drive.

Great cars generally, wish I'd held on to mine ( and the 3.6 turbo[8|]), but yours in white looks terrific. Well shot photos too - how do you get that narrow focus effect? Makes it almost look like a model car.

good to see you have come over to the bright side she is gorgeous what work are you doing Paul

To date I have had the gear box rebuilt and new clutch, new Dansk Stainless steel exhaust and heat exchangers, rear wheel bearings, front pads and a new bit of oil line.
I wanted to do bits of body work the scuttle had a few small bubbles, but when the screen was taken out and the paint taken off it was only minor ( bonus ), replaced the rear valance not through rust but someone had cut bits away and it was easier to replace, painted rear bumper complete, bonnet because in the end the few stone chips would have annoyed me so in the end painted the whole front and one door.
Changed all bumper rubbers new scuttle rubbers and bonnet badge and finally a new screen but only because it got broken taking it out.
\i have taken the original Fuch wheels off and put a set of non Fuch look alike on 9 and 7 's.
Next jobs
colour part of rear seats, another new oil pipe, blower motor and sort out why the interior lights only work from the lights themselves.
I have also purchased a period radio cassette player but need to find the original connectors.
Great car to drive and just as pleasurable as my 991.

Hi Mike Normally I would use a wide aperture medium length lens shot wide open, in this instance I created a new layer in Photoshop, added blur then roughly blended together, if you look close you can see where I did it.

As they are designed for Turbo rear arches (they were never factory-fitted to 'narrow' Carrera 3.2's) they don't follow the contours correctly. From side-on they look fine, but if you look along the side of the car towards the rear arch, the decal doesn't follow the line of the wheelarch curve. My car has them but if I could wave a magic wand and remove them, I would - but to be honest, that would be for originality rather than any styling issues with sharks-fin's.

Design 911 advertise a set of magnetic ones for non turbo bodied cars, I might try those.

NO, don't do it!!!! You'll get moisture collecting between the sharks-fins and the paint which will cause you all sorts of problems. Just ask Paul Butcher aka 911targa

If you were considering the 'shark fins' as stone protectors rather than for 'cosmetic' reasons, you could always use adhesive clear film as a protectant?

Richard

Porsche didn't apply sharks-fins to narrow body 3.2's because stone chips weren't a problem. I think anyone on here running a 'naked' narrow bodied car will attest to this. As I said earlier, I wish there was an easy way to remove mine, I'd do it in a heartbeat to restore the original appearance (I actually think they look OK, they just shouldn't be there!).

I never had the shark fins fitted to my Targa after its restoration, it was identical to yours and I often thought the black against the white would look good however after many thousands of miles I never experienced any stone chips in that area so their certainly not required.

Update on work to the car either completed or in progress
Fitted new interior lights
Coloured the rear seat bolsters with a kit I saw at the classic car show and must say it worked 100%.
New speaker covers, tried everywhere for speaker covers, eventually phoned local OPC who got them within 2 days and at a very good price, didn't realise that they would be able to get bits like that, on collecting them and following a very informative conversation with the parts manager I have now ordered a pair of original 9 x 16 inch Fuch wheels. when they arrive I will have a set of 9 and 7 x 16 Fuch look a like rims for sale ( £500 ) less than 100 miles.
Fitting genuine period Bremen stereo , I have the original documents user hand book for this unit in the cars folder which as never been opened. I have also purchased a Blaupunkt stereo radio / CD player from a later model and will try this as a alternative to cassettes.
New bonnet struts
Powder coating the fan and housing
New oil pipe

Should all be nice to use in the better weather.
