My 944 is in a sorry state!!!

My car was parked outside my house last night, and today I found it had been hit by something last night.

Front wing, rear wing have been scraped and the OS front wheel has been knocked outwards. []

Just had the police round to look at it.... evidence points towards it being hit by a turquoise coloured Seat.....

Now to start praying the insurance company don't write it off!!!!

I'm very sorry to hear that m8ee , I have suffered the same and it was a stinking drink driver who did it to me about 26 years ago.

There is a fairly long story about my 1st ever new car being hit o/s my 'bedsit' whilst I watched the 1st ever T.V showing of Quadraphenia
(due to length of story I'll save it for the pub [;)] )

I hope the damage isnt too serious but I would think an insurance write off is almost inevitable isnt it ? as any kind of respray or proper bodywork would out do the value most 944's I would think.

Best of luck

Mas

Not the first time I've had to suffer the consequences of a hit and run, it happened to me 9 years ago.

Been onto my insurance company - they have said it is OK to take it in to a repair shop of my choosing, hopefully it will be repairable. They did offer a "Porsche Approved Repairer" but they were down in Lancashire or Derbyshire!!!

I suppose I am lucky the stupid twit that hit it managed to avoid damaging the door!!! The worst of the damage is the front wing, the rear wheel arch has just some damage around the wheel arch.

If on your insurance, I wouldnt be suprised if it was written off but if on the seat drivers insurance I'm pretty sure you can push for repair.

Sounds not too bad , perhaps you can work out something sensible with a local bodyshop then, maybe even turn it to your advantage.

The sickening thing though is that you will still have a claim or 'incident' against you and fault or no fault it counts re any future quotes all be it in a minor way.

I have a 'no fault incident' on my record from an incident in 2007 and I didnt even claim a penny as the damage was minor. A bloke hit my wing mirror right off
( whilst I was stationary) and kept going. I chased and caught him on a building site, I suspect he was 'morning after state' from the look of him.

I called Herts Police who wouldnt even attend as no one was injured and then when I followed it up they refused to pursue it becasue he blanked their letter and it wasn't
within their criteria' even though I had caught the bloke. The working man who plays the game rarely gets a good rub in this country !

Now I have to tell that incident every time I get a quote until 2012, its really annoying.

I digress but why not lol

I doubt the police will find the Seat driver, so it will be on my insurance! [:(]

Bit of an update, using my RAC membership got it recovered to the body-shop I use and they have had a look at the damage.
He said the damage to the wings is repairable and the steering rack needs replaced. With a bit of look I will know the cost of repairs tomorrow morning after he has located a steering rack for it. I have also decided against doing it on my insurance.

Whilst there I saw he had a local 944 cab in, being worked on...

Been on a bit of a downer since it happened, but things are looking up!!! [:)]

.

Fiend,
I was in at Dave's today and had a look at your car, it will fix up OK , i cannot work out how they have missed your door, some wings on e bay at the moment that will fit your car, steering racks also available at various breakers.

Will be keeping my eye out for a damaged turquoise Seat

I would going round the paint shops and offering ÂŁ100 to any one coming in with a seat

worked for me in the past..

I would also look to have it repaired at your cost to take it off the insurances books unless the damage is alot..

I've used Dave quite a few times, and he has always come up trumps for me. With a bit of luck it might be back on the road next week. Hopefully the quote won't be too bad. [;)]

Needs MOT'ed in 6 weeks and it needs 2 new tyres for that.

Yes, I suppose I've been lucky the door didn't get hit... Did you notice the angle of the front wheels? Used RAC to recover it to Dave's - Westways had fun getting it on the flatbed..

Never noticed wheel angles as it was up on the lift, my BM is in to have some cosmetic paint, he will be repainting the front end of my Black one shortly, noticed the tyres were getting down, try Toyo's from Camskill.
Sure it will fix OK certainly looks to good to scrap.

Thanks for the encouragement!!! It would break my heart to scrap it, I enjoy driving it too much!!!

Which tyres I get will probably depend on the cost of repairs.... have used Camskill before and their prices are decent. Bit worried about emissions also when it comes to the MOT , it was borderline last year.

Also, now starting to think about putting my '89 XR2 back on the road.... it's been in storage for 8 years... one of the last ones, totally original and a genuine 49000 mile'r..[:)]

keep ya chin up buddy. I doubt any of us will avoid a hit n run accident during our ownership. Every one of my cars has been hit by people when stationary grrrr. I'm thinking of putting a cheap CCTV camera and PVR recorder in my car

You might try cleaning all of your car's earth points. Replace the battery terminals/ straps and generally cleaning all the electrical connectors for the fuel and inition systems. Replace the oxygen sensor and engine temperature sensors and maybe test and refurbish your injectors.Clean and test /adjust your air flow sensor and AFM Thats bound to improve your emissions [;)]

Mine was out on the 250 last time around, a secondhand AFM sorted it, plenty available, Frazerpart can also refurbish, taking the lid off and cleaning the tracks will also help.
My car should be ready Thursday/Friday will take another look when i go in.
Remember your XR2, quite a rare thing now xaw a vert nice MK 1 XR2 at Cumbria Classic this year.

Went to see Dave before heading in to work today and he has located a steering rack for it. Gave him the go ahead, as the quote wasn't as bad as I thought. Rack should be delivered on Weds and with a bit of luck it should be back on the road next week.

Went in to work in my brothers MGF....... my verdict...... the 944 is a miles better drive!!! [:)]

Had 2 Mk1 XR2's in the 80's, would love another one....actually prefered the Mk1 to the Mk2, but this Mk2 was too good to turn down as I knew all the history of it and knew it was totally genuine. Did have a pair of rare and desirable Weber 40DCNF twin carbs for it, but sold them last year.

Bit of an update.... called round the body-shop today to see how they were getting on...... and was well impressed..... [:)]

Both the damaged wings have been sorted and they were in the process of rubbing down the primer in preparation for spraying...... Door was being prep'ed as well.... another plus is that the replacement steering rack has arrived. [:)]

Should have it back some time next week. [:D]

hey thats great news . Quick too!
When you get it back you should plan a weekend break away somewhere nice . Stick the bags in the back and put it all behind you[;)]

Well, the spraying is finished, now it's just waiting for the mechanical damage to be sorted.......

Looks like I'll have a smile back on my face on Friday!!! [:)]
