My 944S is back on the road :)

Hi all!

I took my car off the road a year ago, mainly due to it needing a good 'going over'. There was nothing seriously wrong, it had had a light bump on the OS front years back which gave it a wonky face and the interior was tired.

This thread - http://www.porscheclubgbforum.com/fb.asp?m=509448 shows how I debated breaking the car, with lots of differing opinions as to the future of this 1988 example.

Well, I spent a full two weeks last month repairing it to a useable, solid example.

It was never a rotter (and still isn't) so recommissioning was a straightforward task really.
All the brakes were renewed, the front end totally dismantled, straightened and rebuilt and the running gear was given a good service.

How it looks now-

I'll be honest- it's still a very average example, I did no paintwork at all. This car would really benefit from a pair of front wings and a full respray...

But overal, I'm happy I saved the car. It is now MoT'd (with only one minor advisory!), taxed, insured and lapping up the daily slog.

Further work is to concentrate on the interior. I currently have the carpets out for a good shampooing (they're cream..) and when time and budget permits, I want to fit two new wings and badge panel. But for now, I'm just enjoying budget 944 fun!

" An average example " , or looking at it another way, a tidy but not showey 20 plus year old car that you can park up without worrying about every dink and scratch.

I'm pleased you like your 944 enough to have stuck with it and hope you enjoy putting many mile on her.

Regards

Mas

Thanks for the comments all!

Yup, in a way you're right ukmastiff- the shabby paintjob means it doesn't matter if people open their doors into it in carparks etc. The pictures do make it look better than it is though!

You seem to have forgotten to put some of the numbers back on the numberplate, or they make have dropped off while it was off the road. The glue can go a bit un-sticky with time, but soaking them in hot water makes them stick again quite nicely.

I suspect they dropped off on your garage floor.

Oli.

Ahhhh I knew I'd forgotten something Oli!! They really should have picked up on that at the MoT ;)
