Dear all.

Sad day for me. I watched as my beloved 944S2 was taken away on the back of a transporter by the insurance company after having been written off through no fault of my own. Having owned it for 22 years it had become part of the family and I was hoping to be able to gift it to my kids to enjoy but alas it's not to be.
I've deliberately put the registration plate up in the title so that should it come back on the market Porsche Club GB can be searched for info.

Pete.

Sorry to hear that, but hope you are ok, gutting to lose it through others mistakes.....
Tony

I feel your loss Pete [:(]

They're only lumps of metal but we do get attached to them after a couple of decades

Hi Pete,
gutted to hear your story. I am very young on my S2 journey but already forming a bond. Can’t imagine the wrench of losing it (through no fault of your own) after 20 years + so wish you well. Cheers

I would of have bought it back off the insurance, and paid to have it fixed if it was that close to my heart

anything can be fixed it’s only the cost that prohibits it normally

did you have more than one valuation of the damage?

@StumpJumper

I really hope you enjoy yours as much as I did mine. It's a brilliant car and hold its own 30 years on.

@Waylander
Yep. Got all the numbers and they just wouldn't add up. I'd just spent £8.5k on getting it sorted properly and I don't have the money to add to the insurance payout to get it back. Unfortunately there is too much damage to the rear end and associated panels.

That’s the drag the amount sunk in, you really have to know where to draw the line

i don’t think I have spent 10k on my 968, and that includes buying the car
but in the event of all out destruction I would just about break even, but I could not replace it for that

in fact I don’t think I would replace it, I would head off to the dark side and buy a BMW 840ci, I’m just a glutton for electrical punishment

@Waylander
Yep. That's absolutely the point. It was never about the value of the car but sometimes you have to listen to your head. Having spent the money it would have been an above average example, not perfect, but it would have been mine. It's really difficult to be objective especially when dealing with the insurance. They don't really understand it when I say "I don't want a replacement, or the money, I want MY car".

I'm not sure what I'm going to do yet, but I do have loads of memories. If I can figure it out, I'll post my favourite photo.
