My 964 C2 (not RS I know)

I have just sold my 73T that was running correct Carrera engine and lightweight suspension / brakes etc. and was a great project, but wasn't really suitable to the 10K miles or more I want to do in a year, and a few priority changes meant it had to go.

So what to replace it with....a 3.2 Carrera, 964, 993, and I tested out a 996 Turbo.....even got a deal worked on a pukka 964RS (but the mileage I do would kill the value).

Yes I wanted a 964RS but I also have to drive a good 10K+ miles per year so decided to go for the best 964 C2 I could and personalise from there to give me the RS 'theme' - not a replica etc.

I have always liked the shape of the 964, and when a contact on DDK / Impact Bumpers contacted to say his was for sale, the deal was done.

It is a late 1992 C2 manual in metallic midnight blue with black sports seat interior and comes with full stamped service book and all bills from new...all bound in a PCGB Record Folder.

It has recently had a couple of the usual rust spots looked at (windscreen base mainly) and received a full respray with glass out and all new rubbers.

There are two sets of Cup Wheels with Bridgestone SO2 for street and Pilot Sport Cup for Track....225/45 and 255/40

The icing on the cake is a newly fitted and superbly setup suspension by Jaz with Bilstein Dampers and Eibach springs to 'RS Spec' and factory RS anti roll bars.....very low but handles beautifully.

There is still scope here to personalise the car and take it closer to a RS Touring spec. over time, but for now I will get to know it a little better.

I will own another long hood one day as a stable mate, but for now the C2 is my P-Car experience.

Well done Ian.....I followed your 911T restoration to 2.7 hotrod with interest , even ended up getting same style BF Torino seats off Mark Wareing.

Hopefully you will do some trackday events in 2011 including the '964 friendly' Curborough sprint to make some use of the RS style enhancements [:D]. PS This forum is good for notification of who's going to what ....

Very nice a good second option, has it a sunroof? Recently drove an RS replica with all the bits, RS, Clutch, Suspension, Brakes (without C4 Pressure Boost) Rs interior, cage etc etc BUT did not have that razor edge feel and involvement of the real thing .... ps, delet the rear wiper, easy on a 964?

Cracking car Hamish Franklin's Ian well done!!

Enjoy it, I'm sure you will have some real RS's in your rear view mirror on track while giving it 100%[:)]

Thanks for the comments, and whilst I appreciate you cannot replicate the original RS feel, you can create a nice homage to it, and live with it 'daily' and not see a big depreciation as a result. I would have gone for the pukka RS if I could then run another 'nice' daily driver but finance and space do not stretch to that :-(

So, I bought this as I knew it was the right colour combo (midnight blue and black), 1992 so improved rear brakes, head to barrel seals, distributor sorted etc. etc. ..... and Hamish has done a great job on the suspension setup with Steve at Jaz. Not pure RS, but Eibach springs with helpers and Bilsteins with pukka RS ARBs and larger rear camber eccentrics. Also has RS rear centre section and bypass ad exhaust mods with Steve Wong Chip so goes well to.

Original plan was perhaps to go the lightweight homage route, but TBH the car needs to be a 'daily' and so sound insulation, some rubber in the bushes, Becker Indianapolis Pro with Navi and Aircon etc. make it a great GT Car.

Have just read an old article comparing the lightweight with the Touring (thanks Tony) and got me thinking - why not create an RS Touring homage - I really hope Touring isn't a dirty word here as the 7 RHD Owners will be most upset :)

The RS Touring had many of the features I have here, including door cards, sports seats (need colouring in the centre and blue seat belts), aircon and electric windows. I did not have rear seats ----- does anyone have a photo of the rear seat delete on the Touring please ?

The RS Touring did not have the rear wiper ----- but carreraboy ---- it is very useful in crappy UK weather .... I will drive a while and see if I use it before deleting it.

Other Touring mods I can do - Uniball Strut mounts - did it have these or standard ? Do I need different strut top mounts ? Steve at Jaz has supplied 60mm 'special mounts' for the Eibach / Bilstein !!!

Yes I will definitely be out for some track days ...... Spa for sure as I really enjoyed that in the 73 car.....and then Donington, Oulton or Cadwell and Snetterton.

I am going to post separately about tyres and the RS Touring next.

See you all at the track and on the M69 :)

Ian, I remember the drive home from the Support Donington day - your white 911T, my white RS, Paul's white GT3RS in convoy. I didn't realize you had a secret desire for a 964.

Always liked the 964, and with luck I will own a pukka RS one day.

For now, I will get as close to the experience as I can, whilst driving the car daily / regularly.

Get one now while they're still at £50k. Borrow the money - you can do it! [:D] They won't come down in value until 2041 when oil runs out. [:(] They'll all become garage Queens then. [;)] The Motec cars won't run on vegatable oil either. [:(]

You have taken the words right out of my mouth Paul ..... beg borrow or sell the wife, this is a complete NO brainer, we will not see cars lagging around the early £50k's ever again ..... [;)]
