this is my 996 Turbo and since its the 911 50th anniversary year i was thinking of adding a touch of gold to it. What do you think?

Hmm. Black and gold. Maybe you should've bought a Lotus. Only kidding. It's a striking combination. Mike.

thanks for your input guys.im not sure about the change yet myself and i need to convince the wife! here's another picture

Kim this is a bold approach to the colour of your wheels. I admire your courage in trying to be different. You will never get much of a consensus on wheels. You only have to look at a wheel thread on the 944 forum to see how three different wheel pictures on the same 944 have almost polarised opinion to understand what I am getting out. Making an assumption about how much you drive your car, if you bear in mind that you spend only about 1% of your time looking at your own wheels then the opinion of others is put into perspective. It is perhaps one of the few times that you ask yourself if you are going to be swayed by opinion. Maybe it is a result of the photo package or a trick of the light, but on my lap-top they look more like anodised yellow and not gold, and for me this does not quite work. An earlier poster made a suggestion of black with a narrower gold rim, and this might work, but as pointed out on the 944 forum if you put a truly black rim on your car you soon see how shabbily grey your tyres are. I think I would vote with your wife and remain tough to convince.

Or a quick alternative is to stick coloured alloygators to potect the rimland protect your wheels at the same time

Cheers for your thoughts John and yes the colour is not perfect because all I had to change the wheel colour was an colour effects app on my phone and that was as close to gold as I could get.i do like to be a bit different from time to time and as we are on the list to do the parade lap at silverstone i would like my 996 to stand out.once again thanks for your thoughts.Mandy,my wife, said ha,told you.bullet biting time me thinks

Kim ,we may end up quite close to each other on the parade lap if the group the cars by type becaue I have an Atlas Grey Metalic 996 turbo too, but this is not immediately apparent from my avatar. My avatar has long been established with the 944 cab and unlike some, the avatar for me is how people identify me and not a vehcile with which to display my latest acquisition. Hence you will not see a list of current or previous cars in my posts even tough I would be entitled to list 924 x 2 (gone), 924turbo x 2, 944s x 1 (gone), 928S4 x 1(gone) 944turbo x 1 and 996turbo. It is all just so much showing off. You will notice that I don't even list the 996 as twin turbo as if that was something a bit one-up from a 911 with a single turbo. So I will look out for a 996 with a very disticntive set of wheels in the parade.

I don't think of listing previous cars as boasting, otherwise I wouldn't do it. I think it gives others an idea of your experience of particular models.

I think it's great you can list all your cars. I would be proud to name a list like that.we're looking at adding a boxster to the driveway soon. The more the merrier for me. Both Mandy and I are looking forward to meeting and making new friends this year as we plan to do as many meets and tours as we can.Gold wheels or not:)

Seen in that light Richard you make a good point about listing your vehicular experience. Maybe I am just a bit touchy at the moment as I have just let the 944 forum know that I am boycotting it because of the disrespectful way people are posting their questions or replies and comments. This isn't Facebook or Twitter it is a forum largely peopled by mature adults and it is just about getting on my nerves over there to keep seeing 2 u and bin istead of to you and been and I can't condone it, innit? [:D]

I think those wheels look great, but IMO they work because the spokes are thin and there are gold accents on the car itself which draw the eye away

I second what Rodney has said. With the original suggestion there ws just too much surface area of spoke. As we discovered on the 944 forum an inch on a rim or a change of design can make a huge difference to how a wheel looks on a car. This is a good eample of something that has been tastefullly done, not overdone. Dare I take one of my feet out of the mud and say I like it? I think so.
