My Boxster 3.2 new in September 2005

I recently purchased this Boxter 3.2 which had done 57000 miles when I bought it in January, and it seems in excellent condition and has come with 6 months guarantee..
I have done 2000 miles since, and it has used 0.5 litres of oil. Is this usual?

My 2005 Boxster S with 40k miles has never needed any oil adding between oil changes, which I have done annually, irrespective of the mileage covered which last year was 4,300.

Is there any sign of oil leaking, any spotting where you park overnight or any sign of oil under the engine?

If you use an independent Porsche specialist I’m sure they’d be willing to put your car on a lift to look for any sign of an oil leak.

Are you sure you’re not overfilling with oil? What has made you think that oil needs adding?

Some smoke on start up isn’t uncommon and isn’t usually anything to worry about but do you see any sign of smoke in your rear view mirror once the engine has warmed up and you’re driving? Maybe you could get a friend to drive behind you watching for any sign of smoke. PLEASE don’t have an accident whilst looking in the mirror. If bluish smoke is seen whilst driving I suggest you get your car checked out by a Porsche specialist.

no sign of oil leaking - I only realised that oil was needed when reading the oil level indicator prior to starting the engine.

It has been running very smoothly - no signs of smoke or oil under the car when in the garage. AS you say, a check with a Porsche specialist probably the best answer.

I once added some oil to my 911/996 engine after a track day but then noticed that the oil pressure was higher than it ought to be. I took it to the independent I use and they said I’d over filled it, which isn’t good! I’m sure that after they’d drained about half a litre out, they told me that the level on the dash display should not be right to the top and that the top cell should be blank.

If you use an independent I recommend that you get them to check the level to ensure that it isn’t over full. If you are anywhere near Yorkshire I can highly recommend Revolution Porsche.

if your engine has used 0.5 litre in 2000 miles it’s probably ok but a Porsche independent will advise you better than me.

My 07 boxster S used around 0.5 l every 7-800 miles and had bore scoring needing engine rebuild

all the other 12 Porsche I’ve had never used any oil between services

id get it checked just in case
