My Car Data

Member
Whilst ordering a few screws, clips and speed nuts etc in my local OPC at Chester today I asked the guy very nicely on parts if he would punch in my VIN and give me the car data held on my 44 Turbo.

I knew most of it but nice too see it in black and white on Porsche headed paper ( he printed it off for me ) [:D]

Codes may be usefull to others looking at the stickers in their boot.

M758 Special Model 944 Turbo S '88
M685 Split rear seats
M593 Anti Lock brake system ( Bosch )
M567 Windscreen tinted upper part darker coloured
M462 Securiflex windscreen ( I have a new windscreen now so this is now void I am guessing )
M454 Automatic speed control ( or cruise control in real speak )
M437 Comfort Seat Left Electrically adjustable
M438 Comfort Seat Right Electrically adjustable
M288 Headlamp washers
M220 Locking differential 40%
MO30 Sport chassis
M501 Turbo logo on wing

Oh well I was bored and it kept me busy for ten mins typing this [:D]

I knew the front of my car had been repainted at some point but did not realise it came with the Turbo Logo on the front drivers wing from the factory.

I am wondering if I should re instate the Turbo logo on the front drivers wing??

What do people think, I have a dark car so would not show up very well. Anyone stuck one of these on, is it difficult?

I wouln't personally, very eighties. You could of course argue that it is an eighties car after all, and that's very true, but somethings are best left in the past - huge vinyl wing stickers are one of them.

Put one back on. Why not, your car came with it originally. Porsche love writing all over their cars, even now:

I think Rick knocks them up here: http://www.highgatehouse.co.uk/944.htm

I say go for it, although I'd probably consider a dark shade for your car rather than the original silver as a way of updating the look. However white would probably look awesome too.

Hi Peter

It does not say whay colour it originally had but as you say I am guessing Silver.

They are only shown on PET in black and silver anyway.

I may get one and give it a go and see how it looks. I can always take if off if I do not like it.

Cheers

I'm sure Rick can probably do them in all sorts of other colours (orange? [;)]) if desired, but I think the black on your dark blue car could might look rather good.

I think they are difficult to fake as they are made up of hundreds of dots which get smaller as they go toward the back to create the fade effect. Rick had my spare genuine black one to try to replicate, but it didn't work out with the dots though I think he can do solid ones in any colour.

I think they look superb and when I read in the spec that your car had it I thought "oooh nice". It would have been silver on the dark blue - it matched the rear badge which came in silver and black also.

I may just see how much a silver one is Fen when I pick my bag of bits up next week from OPC [:D]

I can always remove it if I do not like it, but I sort of think it would suit it and as it was born with it originally [:D] be rude not to...

I think it will look the dog's sweetbreads. Black wouldn't work for you; I was inadvertently supplied a silver one first and it wasn't clear that it was wrong until I fitted it, it looked light through the front paper, but not so much that I doubted its colour as the paper could just have been masking the blackness. Silver was virtually invisible on my car and worse than not being there as you couldn't really see what it was meant to be and it therefore just looked like a mess on the wing.

Cheers Fen I am sure it will look the dog's thingies [:D]

Can you remember approx cost from OPC for the wing sticker?

And how easy was it to fit? I guess I just need a few good pictures of other cars to line it up in the correct postion.

The backing is shaped to follow the edge of the wing so it's easy to position. I think it was something stupid like £60 or even £80. I know I snapped up a spare a few months later for £20 and thought I had a bargain.

Blimey, looks like I was out-voted then! [:)]

Hi Ian

Well I am not 100% convinced but I think I am going to purchase one and see how it looks.

If it looks pants I will just remove it.

But I sort of like them. I would not have owned up to liking them though, well not until I found my car came from the factory with one [:D]

Cheers

Lee

Yes, you can always remove it. I suppose that if it originally had one I can see the appeal. After all, it's only people's opinions and it's your car at the end of the day!

Lee,
That's another expense you've added to Nick's budget![:)]. Actually,I hadn't realised those stickers were optional,I thought perhaps cars had had a respray & nobody bothered to replace them.My 924S hasn't got the large "924S" stickers each side on the doors,so presumably if the same logic applies, they were never ordered with it from new.
Colin.

Hi Colin

Well my car is a Turbo S ( so a later Silver Rose in a dark colour effectively ) so this I think would have been pretty standard on the cars at that time.

I will give one a go. My car had the ront drivers wing resprayed before I bought the car hence no wing sticker.

Cheers

Lee

Lee, it's got to be done, even if just for the sake of originality.....[;)]

Mine shouldn't have one though, so that's an expense I've been spared![:D]
