My car is porous

My car leaks. this is not new, and not unique.
However its latest party trick is to leak petrol out at a similar rate to leaking rainwater in. I admire its sense of humour sometimes. Not right now though.

Any reccomendations on where to get a new fuel tank? I see porsche apart do reconditioned ones for just under £200.

Glassfibre resin has so far failed to bodge it - does anyone know of specialist resin which can handle petrol better?

Cheers,

Chris.

I'd say that GF resin is bleedin dangerous. I dunno how it reacts to petrol, but I can reasonably expect it isn't good!

Something better would be JB weld or some similar "steel" epoxy. Apparently the AA carry that sort of thing for temporary repairs....

There is a 2 part putty available from some motor factors especially for fixing fuel tanks. I am fairly certain that later cars have plastic tanks, might be worth asking a breakers how much for a replacement.

Thanks for the help.

Bizarrely when i was 17 i had a pack of 2 part fuel tank putty which i kept for years. I think i binned it when i went to uni. Why on earth... anyway. Yep apparently the later cars do have plastic tanks. I'm now coming round to the idea of a reconditioned tank from porsche apart - even if it does mean taking the transmission off in December.

p.s. - hilarious entry from Haynes manual:
"step 8 - remove transmission."
