My first 944 S2 Cabriolet.

Hi everyone,

Just sold my 330 BHP Scooby so with a car in use for daily commuting I'm now looking for a 2nd car.

I'm looking at spending roughly £6k on a S2 Cabriolet and have seen the following:-

First impressions???

Looks very nice, if the docs are in order etc, must be worth a view.

I would certainly suggest a recognised Porsche guy has a good look too, its top money for the model but it might be a top car.

Looks like the car is in Derbyshire, anyone on here from that area or know any specialists who could come with me [;)]

PH Sportscars are in South Derbyshire (actually just in Leicestershire by a few feet). I wouldnt expect them to 'come out', but they should be able to find anything amiss for an hours labour. Speak to Simon who is a factory trained technician, or Paul who is elusive: I mean Paul who is the owner.

There's a good choice of Cabriolets on the market at the moment so I think you'd find an equally good car privately and save the hefty premium you're paying to the dealer selling this one.

Ask yourself, however, could you live with that pimpmobile/drug dealer/overpaid footballer colour for very long? [:'(] Still, whatever floats your boat I suppose! [8|] On the other hand I thought mine in Maritime Blue was a bit of an iffy colour to begin with but I've got used to it now [;)]

I love the colour. [&:]

Looks nice, as always check the bodywork internally, don't rely on the external appearance. I don't like the wheels myself, and the handling might be horrible in a cab on 18", but if you sold them and went back to something more suitable ( 16" or 17" ) it'd be a cheaper deal. I don't think it's overpriced if it's as good as it looks, bearing in mind the dealer has to make a living.

Yes really nice colour but would echo Pauls comments about 18" wheels on a cabriolet, don't think thats going to be a particularly happy combination imho. The car is certainly worth a look and a proper inspection if you have really taken a shine to it.

Here's another I've seen Private but it is 168 miles from me:-

Looks nice in black [:)]

Being pragmatic, you should bear in mind it's been on sale for a while with no takers (a bargaining point if you really want the car) and the colour may really be a big problem when you want to sell it on!

Good service history or not, there's not too many men would take on that colour unless they were having a severe mid-life crisis and not very many women drive a 944 at all Cabriolet or otherwise! After driving an Integra Type R for a few years my wife finds the steering and gearchange on my Cabriolet too heavy for it to be a comfortable drive and avoids it preferring to drive her Merc ML instead.

I would agree with Paul and Jon that the 18" rims need ditching and I cannot imagine they do anything good for steering that is already on the heavy side.

Now the black one looks the business and if I had the money (and didn't already have a Cabriolet) I'd be going after that one especially at that price!

Come on, it has the look of the golf club or Canal Street, Manchester about it!

Presumably they gave it an American name to appeal to our buddies across the pond (even though I can't recall Lake Tahoe being that colour when I was there) but as their car history demonstrates style and taste do not often break through over there.

Would you seriously drive around the centre of Sheffield with the hood down in a car that colour?! [:D]

The black one looks smart and at that price you would have some money in the Kitty for your first year of ownership when you are bound to find things that need replacing or aren't to your liking. Those wheels do look a bit odd to me but least they are a better size for the car and can always be changed should the mood take you. Always worth travelling to track down a good 'un rather than settling for less nearer to home.

Black looks great when clean and shiney but as I have found to my cost, keeping a black 944 in that state is a right pain in the posterior. [&:]

Personally I like the Tahoe blue- agree about 18" wheels get shot of them-as Paul says you could get some
money back for them.
Overall I think the blue one looks better- but the Black looks at a very good price-money to pay for any
problems it may have.
A very nice choice of car.
Cheers
Ron

have a look at a few, as said..i been looking for a good cab for 6/8 month , i lost count of the miles i have done, (1000's) in the UK ,but in the end its worth it. If you dont know much about cars take some one who does, & it dont have to be porsche expert a general, traditional mechanic bud, will be fine.
I looked at 20+ cars, cabs & coupes, the chi7 out there is unreal, the worsed i saw had a service book full of tip-ex & mots from 3 diffrent cars !! (vin No)

Take a look around & pay for a good car, its cheeper than a restoration job .. I know of 3 god cars in the Uk, 1 wants a 1500 paint job, 1 wants Roof & paint , 1 wants std 'ising..(wheels etc & conolising) all about 100k miles on, but there bearly run in at that , if its genuine....oh yeh, 120k genuine miles beats - 60k non- [;)]

expect to pay £6k+, for the right one..hey they are worth it, IMO .what else can you get for that..a pimped bmw 98 , focus, golf...narrrrrr yawnnnnnnnn [:D]

Good luck with the search. If you need to know what most the car for sale on classic/ or piston, ask i seen most of them.
this is a gem, i nearly had, then i found a red one..hmmmmm shud have got it !
