my first Porsche - I have questions

I just aquired my very first Porsche, a 2006 911 S manual with 40K miles and i am very happy. This is my first post to the site. Having never owned a 911 before I have a couple of questions. The air con doesn't seem to blow particularly cold, just cool - is this normal? Any ideas what i should check? Also, I can hear the clutch engageing and disengaging, a whirring form the rear - again anything to be concerned over? Any advice is most appreciated.

Cheers

David

one more thing - I live in Lancashire, can anyone reccomend a good independent specialist for servicing and repairs?

At that age it's more than likely due an air on regass- and a leak check prior as the rads may have failed.

Edited to add that I'd not normally suggest them but Kwik fit are reasonable on air on checks and gassing

David,
On the first post elsewhere you mentioned the temp running at 95C. Is this still the case? As Gary says, the aircon is prob a regas but if you are running hot that could be other issues which need to be checked out pronto. I know it seems obvious but have you checked the coolant level? When you put the air con on do you hear the fans go into high speed? Or is there no change?

The clutch noise could be a thrust bearing but, again, I would get it listened to by someone who knows about these things!

Can't offer any advice on Indies in Lancs though - sorry!

Did the car come with any form of warranty, btw?

Hi,
Sorry, it's not Lancs., but I've used Mike at Sports & Classics in Knutsford, Cheshire, and he really knows his Porsches.

Mike also runs his own Maintenance Plan which is worth a look.

Another well known Indie is Hartech in Bolton, also running their own Maint. Plan; not used them, but their reputation is excellent.

Good Luck.

thanks GaryW, i will start with a re-gas and will check the rads for a leak also.

being a brand new owner and completely dumb i was looking at the oil temp instead of the water temp! it was oil running at 95c which is ok i am sure, I need to have more coffee in the morning.

I have a warranty with the car but I am guessing there is porbably an exemption for the thrust bearing but will check. I located an indy specialist not far so will try and swing by for an opinion.

thanks to all - time to join the club now.

Doubt if you would be surprised to know you're not the first...[;)]

Yes, get that membership form off. I believe R18 are a rowdy bunch, unlike the polite R15, but I'm sure you will have fun.[:D] And, of course, you can join us on our many and varied 997 register events!

Also Unit 11 Porsche,Warrington-John & Danny -2 great guys--don't believe the poison from deepest Devon--us in R18 are extremely friendly but as you would expect we just speak our minds-you will be made very welcome-

Did I say you were unfriendly? Most certainly not![:D] Interesting, though, how both the SW and the NW will use the word "us" meaning "we"[:)]

David, you could always call in at your local Porsche Centre - I'm sure they would inspect and give you a report - you don't have to use them if you feel their quote for any work is too high!

Well of course,Alan, there is really only the Welsh separating us (we -in the Black Country). We can do "polite" for special occasions.[:)]
