My first Porsche regional meet

I did not know what to expect, being new to Porsche ownership and not really having any knowledge apart from what i have read in Autocar over the years and being on the Pistonheads forum, i was hoping to get some insight into the brand and the club as a whole. So i turned up at the Sherbrook Hotel last night as that is where the Scotland South guys(i think) have there monthly meet and i was open-minded in what may have been ahead. Would the meeting be full of middle aged men with Beards?,Young boy racer types?A fleet of air cooled 911's in the Car-Park dismissing my water cooled 996? As it turned out it was a good bunch of very experienced guys with no beards although one did have a "George Michael like" stubble and wore a brown leather jacket that the rest of the guys found amusing though it was the type of thing that i would wear "" So designer stubble & Brown Leather jackeks are noted as a No No - Not very good with names so i apologise that i cannot name & shame the culprit.

We covered most things from maintenance,Glasgow OPC(Good or Bad),good independent garages, the guys cars, also the issue of track days and whats involved, whats it like for a newbie on the track?Insurance?Risks?Tyre Pressure,Brake fluid levels etc, etc. The letters RO were mentioned a few times in discussion which puzzled me at the time but i did not want to ask in case it was standard Porsche talk. All in all it was good night and everyone made me feel welcome and i should hopefully be at the Sytner track day at Knockhill next weekend so a big thanks to Brian and the rest of the guys.

Finally, I don't know what i was more surprised with - that 8 out of the 9 guys had actually drove the "Ring" or the Rangers result.

P.S. I worked out on the way home what RO actually meant, Regional Organizer as it seems we do not have one at the moment.

That's really good to hear - I nearly made it for my first visit to the Sherbrook Hotel too last night but then realised I'd brought wrong car into work[8|]

I'll try to make it next month.

TBH I've never been as I usually see alot of the guys at other things, and I work away Monday to Thursday but one day I'll make it!!!!

Glad you enjoyed it, they are all a friendly bunch.

Paul.

It was a great meeting last night especially when Lewis Hamilton showed up ....Well not realy but new boy Alan ( Gotta 996 ) who is a dead ringer, a bit more side burns and you will be there!!
Hope we did not scare you off and we are all guys honest ,the GM look was our Mike who is a world authority on tyres and all things Porsche ,the others from your left where Alistair .Raymond .Sean .Greig . Alan . Brian .Scott .Mike .
It is always daunting comming along to any new thing ,but I think most will agree we try to make all feel welcome ,you do not have to turn up in a Porsche as most tend to come in other makes especially as the darker nights set in . hope you can make it along to the Sytner track day do not be put off with anything you heard last night ,I am sure any of the guys will take you around for a couple of laps in there car .
Cheers
Brian

Hi alan,

good to meet you,,

must appologise for Mike :) (dodgy jacket)(dodgy stubble) think he had been sniffing drugs at work, because i am sure he rarely getts lap dances from his nurses. Mike had dressed up last night with the Aldi Jacket as he had been told to look smart for getting into my car. [:D][:D][:D][:D][:D][:D][:D][:D][:D]

see you next sunday on track !
