My first stone chip

As regulars will know I had my front PU resprayed in October to address 15 years of stone chips.

Today I can proudly [&:] display the first new chip

The cruelest chip of all [;)]

Paul, would you mind saying what you paid for the respray? I'm considering having my S2 for the same reason - 15 years of chips on black is pretty noticeable after clean-and-shiny-ing.

It was £300 [:)] for the front end and a lot of small bits. All the details are in this post:

and she's going back in January to get the bonnet done now [8|] hopefully I'll get the same excellent loan car [8D] http://dmalings.fotopic.net/p8034954.html

Pi55er, but bound to happen. But what the alternative, one of those bra things that owners of some other models use... [:'(]

Or putting your car away in a garage and driving a Honda instead [8D]

Bummer about the chip, Paul. Paint job looks spot on from the pic though.

Ye but just think how fast my car will feel in the spring, i will not be thinking about any mods till the end of the summer then it will be too late again. A great way to prevent outragious spending on unessesary mods.

You could fix that with the right shade touch up paint and Langka

www.langka.com

Cheers Mark,

I do have some Langka, but I'm going to leave it a few months until the new paint is totally cured before I start messing around. Chips are a fact of life when you commute up and down the motorway every day so I'm not overly upset. It still looks amazing compared to what it did 6 weeks ago [:)]

Here are some notes I've posted here before on using Langka. When you get around to it they might help...

[FONT=Times New Roman"]I used the OPC touch up. But the instructions say let dry for an hour - I find a day or 2 to be nearer the mark!
Cut most of the bristles off the touch up brush - or use a 00 or 000 paintbrush to apply. Only put the paint in the chip.
Try not to get excess paint around the chip - it says "just put a blob over the chip". DON'T! The paint will react with the touch up paint and raise it up a little. Horrible!

Use the finest weave pure cotton you can find for the cloth. We bought a baby's pillow case to cut up.
You can use the card as a flat backing or not - but you can mark the car if you get the angle on the card wrong. I find it easier to just use the cloth over a fingertip and a small dab of langka on the cloth. you can feel when the blob has gone.
Use the tiniest amount on the cloth - too much will not help - and do NOT put it on the chip and leave for more than a minute or two. It will react with the base paint and actually seems to raise the original paint up as with the touch up paint above ...

The Langka will dry on the car in an area spread around the (ex) chip. Use Auto Glym tar remover to get rid of it (you will need to re-wax though if you do this!)

Try it on the "other car" first (but only if clear-coated).

With care, the finish is perfect. The chip will be invisible.[FONT=verdana, geneva"]

I've finally started touching up the crater this week. It's so deep I have filled it with three seperate blobs of paint so far, allowing it to dry overnight in between. Hopefully it will be up to the surface before the Dyno day and I can smooth it off with a layer of clearcoat and none of you will notice it.

Both cars have now had this years Spring coating of Zymol as well and they are looking pretty darned good just now [:)]

I've heard about 2-pack paints which can be applied instead of the usual stuff. Has anyone heard of these and are they harder and more resisitant to stone chips. I believe they are pretty toxic so have to be applied proffessionally.
