My indicator unlocks the car !

Hi - it’s been a long time since I posted on here. Mainly as the car has been great. Recently had a battery change after lockdown. Car wouldn’t start again for four hours and then came to life as if nothing had gone wrong. Realised the left side repeater had come loose and was hanging inside the wing. got it sorted into a new housing and all seemed fine. Now when I start the car and indicate left (and left only) the central locking will repeatedly lock and unlock. It may happen straight away and then disappear after a few left turns, or it may appear after an hour or so of driving. It’s very irritating.
Any ideas ?

Well, I’m by no means an electrical expert, but have some experience with these older cars, which often defy the best of logic.

The intermittent nature of your problem and the fact it’s related to the left indicator you have disturbed recently suggests maybe there is something earthing occasionally, causing the effect you describe.

Worth taking a look up inside that left wheel arch (and inside the door panel, perhaps) to see if anything else is adrift which might cause it?

Good luck with the solution [:)]

I'd be checking the gasket on the housing to ensure nothing was grounding that shouldn't and then check the bulb holder for corrosion to ensure that something was grounding that should. This sort of thing makes the most sense.

Have got a alarm system with central locking that flashes the indicators

sounds like that has a short somewhere
